I have an ASUS G73S. This morning I started my computer normally and all that came up was the picture on my desktop but no icons, nothing else for an abnormal amount of time. So I shut down the computer...

Have you tried to boot the computer in advanced boot options like safe mode or safe mode networking. Try that & check if you are able to fix the problem.

Control f11 does not work

That computer might not have the Dell Recovery partition installed on it. If not, those keys mean nothing and the system will see it as an error.

If you can get into windows, go to the Disk Manager (Right click my computer, manage, disk management). If the recovery partition is installed, you'll see it there. It will be formatted with the FAT32 file system. If you don't see it, its not there.

Even if it is installed, it might be broken.

You might have to boot to the CD and restore from there instead. When you do, it should install the recovery partition for the next time you need it.

The recovery CD will probably not be automated so you'll have to sit there and answer some questions.

Hi I have an acer aspire Z5700 but the touch portal is not working? You know the little icon in the bottom right corner..when you swipe over it nothing happens? It used to bring up a different screen...

try the recovery partition and make a full recovery of teh system ..That was a parallel function and if it is not there it means something is blocking it ..It maybe nothing but the swiping just not to work ..and this can be fixed by the reinstalling of the drivers..Anyway after engaging the recovery ..it will bring it to the factory condition .., at least it should do ..

Hey guys I am trying to factory reset my inspiron 531s and have done this once before. I tried the f8 option. where you go to the advanced boot option and press enter on the "repair my computer"...

If neither the F8 repair, or Ctrl+F11 work, then you are left with using the recovery disks that you (hopefully!) burned when you bought the machine. If you didn't burn a set, then using a Microsoft disk with the right OS on it (i.e. Vista Home Premium, or Windows 7 Home Premium) should work. When you are asked to enter the key, you should be able to use the key provided on the label.

If the machine is still working though (which it looks like it may be doing, from what you have written), then you should still be able to make/burn a set of recovery disks.

The link HERE should also provide some support (it's Dell's website) - it has guide books on using the software.

My laptop wont load right and nothing working on it. i can't reboot or trune it off. it won't run in safemood

Try booting from your recovery disk, then click "repair my computer". That should replace any corrupt files, and will not erase files on your computer. Very handy.

Won't show files

Looks like the structure to allow a boot on the device has become unusable. That's the bad news. The good news is that with proper recovery programs or a data recovery center you can most likely recover the data... for a price. I'd take it to someone who can look at the drive and give you an estimate before doing any work. My company just shipped a drive out with a similar problem for recovery at a price of $1,500.00. My client learned an expensive lesson in backing up his laptop.

iii) another wa of performing recovery is to press the strat button------press all programs----you will see recovery manager (i'm afraid idont the right path but u explore in all programs....)

Compaq Presario v5000 won't turn on

If the laptop posts: (power on self test) and you see stuff on the screen, no matter how short ,do the following:
if you have a bootable anti virus disc use it to check for any viruses , if not
try a recovery disc,
both will try to access the hard drive.
if they do not work,(nothing has changed) nothing comes on the screen.
laptop does not post:
remove the screw(s) holding the cover plate where the ram lives
remove the memory sticks, clean the gold edges with a pencil eraser both sides and re-insert them, (not an ink eraser as it will do damage)
swap them around if you have more than one,
if you only have one, borrow one from a friend or try the ram in your friends laptop ,if that's possible, or take the ram to your local pc shop and ask them to check it for you (they may or may not do that for you)
if you can establish that the ram is ok, and anti virus and recovery disc's do not work, then it is most likely, the motherboard has failed .
good luck with that and let me know how you get on.

Restore factory settings

what i would do is go into dos. If you cant get into dos find a windows 98 setup disk 3.5" this will have the dos files that will allow the computer to reconize a generic cd rom. This should allow you to get your recovery disk working. Your software problem could of created a firmware problem also. Not reconizing the cd rom. This solution will provide the basics to get your cd rom loading the recovery disk for you. If you have questions or more problems feel free to contact me and i will take you through it step by step
