Re: Uanble to call from Lexmark X4270
Have you tried to call out using the phone as a phone and not just faxing? Because the "unable to connect" voice is made by an operator or phone system, not your printer. Make sure that you are not running DSL over analog lines, on a digital phone system, or using IP phones. Fax machines will pick these high-frequency sounds up and it interferes with connectivity.
In the case of DSL at least I know there are line scrubbers you can buy. But in most cases the best bet is to run the FAX on a dedicated analog line.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Make sure the that the fax line is working. To check, insert a telephone device straight to the fax line. You should get a dial tone.
Make sure the telephone cord from the phone jack in the wall is plugged into the Line port on the back of your Lexmark printer.
Assign the correct fax number on the printer.
If you have an answering machine connected to the same
line as the fax, set the answering machine to answer incoming calls before the printer does. Increase
the number of rings by a factor of 3 over the answering machine. For example, if the answering
machine is set to pick up on 4 rings, set the printer to pick up on 7 rings.
If you have a voicemail feature in the same line as the
fax, you may subscribe from your phone service provider for a distinctive ring
pattern feature. You can program your printer to have a distinctive ring
pattern and phone number for incoming faxes.
If these don't help, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for additional assistance.
Here are some guidelines on how to receive faxes behind a PBX system:
First, make sure your Lexmark X4270 printer can receive faxes when not connected to PAP2 and the PBX system.
Ensure that your printer/fax is connected to correct Phone port on your PAP2.
Advise the sender to dial your number so that there is a pause before dialing the extension number to your fax machine. They could insert commas between your fax number and the extension number. It inserts a delay of few seconds each. (e.g. 1234567890,,,,,,,,,,456)
Make sure your phone line for the fax is correctly plugged into the Line Port of the printer and not the EXT port. For a more comprehensive guide on how to setup the Lexmark X4270 for faxing, please refer to the Lexmark X4200 Series User's Guide.
The user's guide also contains some fax troubleshooting steps for your reference.

make sure the phone wire which you insert in fax machine getting proper dial tone and getting out going calling facility and line is working.go to menu option and choose the option fax and set the parameter like auto receive or manual set the ring auto answer mode after certain ring. If it is in auto receiving mode it will receive the fax after the ring which you set. Hope this helps. Please rate my response. Thanks. Have a good day.
In this case first we need to chk whether there is any dial tone on ur fax machine for that u need to Hit the Options button till u find an option saying On Hook Dial now hit select and it should give u a dial tone if it doesnt check the Phone Line Connections...........
If it gives u a dial tone...........
Unplug the Power Supply from the Printer........
Press and hold the Stop/Clear button and while holding the Stop/Clear button insert the Power Supply back to the Printer........
It will say clearing and then display a page where u need to Selct ur Country and the other details........
and as soon as this is done u can send and recieve faxes.......
See if you are getting a dial tone from the phone. -> If you can't, check the line. -> If you can get a dial tone and successfully call out. Make sure you are not running on a digital phone system, IP phones, using DSL, etc. Fax machines have problems on digital lines and many either won't work without a line scrubber or work intermittantly.
