Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

Ntkrnlpa.exe issue I am trying to do fresh windows xp install on IBM think Center A30. Machine type is A1U 8198. 2.8 Ghz processor, 1GB RAM . I took out the original non SCSI Hard drive because it look like it died. I replaced it with SCSI IBM Ultrastar model DDYS-T18350 hard drive and I am having hard time installing any operating system on it. I tried, Xp, Windows 2000 Advanced server, Windows NT. Every time I get the error " set up can not copy the file ntkrnlpa.exe" I took out SCSI hard drive and tried doing fresh install on the original hard drive after reformatting, still the same error. Any idea what could be the reason? Couple of weeks ago system had been running normal on the same machine with original non scsi hard drive but then computer started freezing more often. At hat point I thought of changing the hard drive.

  • RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)

Can not load drivers do not have disks tried to down load from the net.

Maybe you're using a wrong set of drivers. Try to distinguish your operating system first to install the right set of drivers.

For example in Windows XP 32Bit is differ from Windows XP 64Bit Set of Drivers.

View System Information
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. Type winmsd.exe, and then click OK.
  3. When System Summary is selected in the navigation pane, locate Processor under Item in the details pane. Note the value.
* If the value that corresponds to Processor starts with x86, the computer is running a 32-bit version of Windows.

* If the value that corresponds to Processor starts with ia64 or AMD64, the computer is running a 64-bit version of Windows.

DELL OptiPlex GX150 Upgrading

The fastest processor you can install in a GX150 is a Pentium III 1.13 Ghz processor.

The Socket 370 was a design used only for P3 processors.

Max RAM for that system is 512MB no way to upgrade past that.

If you paid $100 for a GX150, you paid way too much (You can buy a refurbished Dell Dimension C521 for $225 at their refurb site)

These are the system requirements:
OS - Windows XP/Vista
Processor – XP: 1.8 GHz or faster / Vista: 2.4 GHz or faster
Memory – XP: 1 GB RAM / Vista: 2 GB RAM
Hard Drive – 7 GB (14 GB required for Digital Delivery)
DVD Drive – 8 SPEED (not required for Digital Delivery)
Video Card – 128 MB with Pixel Shader 2.0 support*
Sound Card - DirectX 9.0c compatible
DirectX - Version 9.0c (included)

This download is not supported on FAT16 and FAT 32 file systems.

*Supported chipsets: NVIDIA GeForce 6200 or greater (GeForce 8800 recommended for DirectX 10); ATI Radeon 9000 or greater. Laptop versions of these chipsets may work but are not supported. Updates to your video and sound card drivers may be required.

I think you'll need a better Video card.
