The CD with MoBo most likely will not have linux drivers on it.

try this LINK

there are a number of Linux drivers there

if it does not work go to the ASUS website and do a search for your MoBo as thats how I found this link.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

I bought unknown motherboard with a 120 p120 processor on it its not installed yet, doe anyone know the speed of this processor

If it says p120, It will probably be a VERY old Pentium 120mhz CPU.
If this is the case, it is of no use in modern computing.
You would find it very hard to find anything to fit onto the board (memory / hard drive / PSU)
for a bit of fun, you may be able to get it running with a linux installation (DSL - damn small linux), or windows 95 maybe windows 2000.
But this would not run the OS / security software and run a browser for the internet.

Why i cant install messenger to my pc.. Linux ubuntu is my windows

Hello,
First of all, the programs made for windows can't be run on Ubuntu because Linux based operating system don't execute *.exe files.
Messenger programs like Pidgin, skype are already added in the repository of Ubuntu. You can select from the software management menu and install. Besides, you can also download the sources (tar balls) of various other messengers written fir Linux distributions, compile them and install. You need just to search on Google for all available messengers for Ubuntu.
It is advisable that you download a Debian package of the software because it is just like Windows .exe file to install it. Just, a click.
Let me know if you need any other help regarding installation of softwares on Linux.
We are always available for your help.

Regards.

How do i use asus motherboard features in ubuntu linux .where do i get asus linux drivers for asus p5q motherboard?

Linux Ubuntu is fully automated. It is backward compatible with old hardware. You should have no problem installing and using it.

It will look for any drivers it needs. It has a vast repository of drivers and software. I have run it on a variety of machines and virtual machines with no problems.

Unix with vista

Hello murha

Yes, you can have them both, install vista first and then linux, ones you have your linux working you have to configure the bootloader in linux to also include the vista so you get a screen when you start up your pc

if your distro uses lilo heres what it would look like

ae16648.gif
All you would have to do to get vista working again would be to add the vista into the bootloader, the process differs between bootloaders so I'm not going to post how todo that, consult the documentation.

One thing thought, Id recommend you have atleast 2 hard drives since linux and windows don't use the same filesystem. You would have to partition your harddrive into 3 or more parts. Windows, linux and linux swap.

More on this in the documentation of your linux.

If this solution was any help at all please rate it as helpfull or fixya.
And if you need anything else let me know, you can ask me 24/7 by clicking
on the ask me button, I will ansver in most cases within 24hours.
Thanks and good luck!

Problem

The WindowsXP setup program will hang when it tries check hardware at the beginning of setup. It won't recognize the linux file system as a legitimate drive and freeze. You'll need to either format the drive and lose all the linux data, or buy a second drive to install Windows on and make the windows drive the primary drive, and temporarily disconnect the linux drive. After you install Windows you can reconnect the linux drive as secondary. You can check the forums for your version of linux and find help on setting up a dual boot system so you can boot from Windows and linux. You'll just have to make adjustment to the linux bootloader config file.
Linux is a great operating system, but is not for the faint of heart.
Good Luck
