Question about Dynex 32 in. LCD Flat-Panel HDTV

DO I take it back????

Hey Wiz. My wife and I just purchased this TV 2 days ago, when we hooked it up, there were 3 white pix. Now only 2 days later, we were watching a movie and theres a big black circle in the center during the dark scenes, with bright blackness around it. Tried adjusting contract, changing movies, etc. nothing seemed to work. Do i need to just take it back since it is only 2 days old, and if so, will there be a chance it will be the same with another one in this brand??? Or, Should I have spent the extra $100. for an Insignia:) Thanks AW Ivers

Hey AW IVERS,

While the occasional dead pixel may be the norm for LCD TV's, the dark circle you've been encountering sounds as if it may be a factory defect. As long as you are still within the 30-day return period, I would suggest returning to your local store and seeking an exchange at this time.

Generally, your chances of encountering the exact same problem with two different TV's made by the same company are slim to none, but that does not necessarily mean that it is not a possibility. When the same defect surfaces repeatedly, manufacturers will often issue recalls of the affected model line. For this specific model TV however, I was not able to locate any such recall notices.

Remember that if you’re still not sure how to proceed, you may always speak with an associate at your local Best Buy™ store for more information and further assistance.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron

This model is equipped with a self-diagnosis feature to help with diagnosis of shutdown problems. To activate this turn the unit on let it shutdown then press the input/device and menu buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold them in for 5 seconds after 5 seconds the power LED on the front panel will blink a two digit sequence. This will be one set of blinks a short pause then another set of blinks, this will repeat 5 times. 1 - 2 = no error detected 2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current) 2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies) 2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection) 2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source.

Straight out of the box had 3 pixels out, Now 2 days later a Black Circle.

The white spots are called 'dead pixels' and depending on the manufacturer, they may allow a certain number of them but normally not in the primary viewing area.

The other anomaly shouldn't be there and LCD displays are not affected by magnetic fields as are CRTs.

Return it quickly and I would be reluctant to accept a simple exchange.
Do some checking on the Dynex brand before you take it back though to see if this kind of quality is common to the make.

Hi, I just purchased a Samsung series 3 330 model#LN40A330 I'am having problems with the AV inputs on back of television. I hooked up a DVD player to Component 1 it works fine Then I hooked up Nintendo...

I figured it out,
The solution to my problem was to update my video cables for my new HDTV.
I found out through trial and error that I can only have one Anolog device hooked up to the TV because with two Anolog devices hooked up the same way it must confuse the TV somehow making one of the inputs showing up in Black and White, So I purchased the color coded AV jacks and everthing works like a charm now.

I think it has to do with hooking up your unit via the usb cable to the computer. I got one from Radio Shack and it worked fine for a day, drove with it and shut it on and off a couple of times. Then I hooked it up to my emachine computer, and all I got was a white screen. Took it back got another one, drove with it, turned it on and off a couple of times, worked fine. Then I hooked it up to my computer, and again the same white screen until I reset it. I noticed all these posts are in the last few days, so I would say it is a bad batch of units. I purchased one for my wife 3 weeks ago and no such problem.
