The toggle switch or 'joystick' is a common weakness on these phones it seems to me. Is there any repair for the toggle switch - or is the mainboard scrap when this occurs. The switch is anchored to the mainboard by two soldered 'feet' , one top , - one bottom , (also there are 3 soldered terminals each side). On mine , one of the anchor points has fractured/sheared. I dont know if the two anchor points also make an electrical connection or 'grounding' . The switch still works in a very random/ unreliable way. Does anyone know answers to any of these questions ? Ian.

The problem with the phone is that the joystick is weak and is not sitting anymore on the phones board, it need to be replaced. That is what you have to do, they sell the joystick in stores or you can get a phone that no longer works and use the joystick.
You will have to take out the joystick by disassembling the phone, and reaching for it,then replace it with new one. That works all the time,if not the phone will be out of controll as the navigation button is what shows its functions.
you have to clean the joystick by using contact cleaner. open the cover of joy stick, there is a switch inside it having a metallic cover. use contact cleaner and let it for few minutes. DONT FORGET TO REMOVE LCD FIRST. it can be damage with contact cleaner. i had a bad experience of it. btw it happens with sony ericsson phone joystick problem.if joystick problem still persist u have to show it to sony ericsson repair centre or your warranty center of mobile.and u can also use the keys your keypad keys for up down left right.

You will need to take it in for repair. 8 bar flash usually means you have a bad joystick/controller. They can sometimes send it in to the manufacturer to have it repaired. Find a reputable dealer and relay this info to them.
sir thats a common problem of a phone with a joystick just like some nokia phones with a joystick. better to send it to repair service and to replace the joystick on it either use your warranty if it has.
I found a source for the sw421 joystick the only problem is i had to order 5 to meet minimum order. I successfully repaired my navigation joystick. Its a 4 axis with push toggle activated switch in the middle. If anyone would like me to repair their unit I will do 4 for $75.00 u pay shipping. It takes anout 1 1/2 hours from start to finish. So the unitcan be back in the mail to you the same day. email@example.com
Start with the Z525 closed. Next open your phone. Press the right (-) key 1 time to get Menu. Click joystick down 2 times, then joystick right 1 time, & then center joystick select button 1 time to get Settings. Click joystick left 1 time, then center select button 2 times to toggle Bluetooth OFF. Close phone & you're done. I hope this helps. -Mike
