1 Answer

Red dot and beep

Ih have recently restarted my computer after not using it for a month along with my Beyond Micro 120GB Mbile Disk USB 2.0. My computer is fine but when I turn on the external harddrive, there is a beeping noise coming out from it and a red dot flashes about every second. It does not show up on my computer and even when I disconnect it from the computer it still has the red flashing dot and makes the beeping noises. Please help.

I have a Beyond Micro external hard drive, model BMMDU2, and I'm having the same problem except I do not hear beeps. Just a flashing red light. The only thing I did to it was when I needed to take it somewhere I tried to safely remove its USB connection, but no matter what I tried the OS wouldnt let me. So I just unplugged the USB cable. Ever since it stopped working. I tried contacting Beyond Micro but have not received a response. Maybe this is my fault, but I'll never buy another Beyond Micro product again.

I have the same problem. No beeps, just flashing red light. I did not do anything. It worked one day, not the next. I have all my backups on this drive. UMMDU2 model.

I have the same model and the same problem but the solution sounds too simple. What's with too low watt being produced? You'd think that Beyond Micro would not make such a stupid mistake. I guess I'll go to Radio Shack and see about a more powerful power supply.

    Thanks!

The problem is in most cases the Power Supply given is of too low of Wattage, at 1.5. After some time, it will no longer provide the drive the needed power, thus the red light.

Try another similar power supply of higher Watts (my Maxtor has it at 2.0 watts.

Try getting Higher power Supply from Radio Shack. Store Tech will Help you.

Lastly, inside the enclosure is simply a typical Hard Drive. Remove it and Slave it to your PC.

I switched my Beyond Micro Mobile Disk from one computer to another and it will not recognize it. I don't have the install disk that came with it. Any ideas?

click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x
right click to reinstall drivers or

if you can see your usb but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver

sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable

just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again,

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems

if this fails to fix the problem
you might have to install a usb 2 or 3 card they are cheap and easy to install you can buy these on Ebay very cheap
hope this helps

How can i plug in my 2 gb adapters into my motherboard?

You will need a card reader. and an adaptor to fit the micro sd card into.
You usually get the sd adaptor when you buy a mini or mico sd card.
If you dont have a card reader built into your computer, you can buy one very cheap.

External does not connect. RED DOT for light.

Sounds like there's a bad hard drive. There are some recovery solutions that you can send your hard drive to. They will recover any data they can from the disk. It is pretty pricey, but the question you have to ask yourself is "Is the data worth X-amount of dollars?"

I replace the drive in a 120gb unit with a 250gb drive but only can see 120gb, how do I get to use the full 250 gb...

Hello I can think of two things

1. the USB device can just handle 120GB and gonna show it in windows. then its nothing you can do.

2. the windows has formated the driver in a wrong size.
go to my compute and look for the disk letter example E:

then go to control panel/administrive tools/and computer management.
expand diskmanagement and look if your driver is listed. check if its several partitions or if its just one 120GB. if its several delete them all and create a new with full sized disk.

check the diskmanagement and tell me what you see?

2gb micro cruzer causing the pc to restart

Do you have another USB device which you can use to check if it will come up with the same problem? There are 3 things which could cause it to freeze and restart. It could be a problem with the software device driver needed to detect the USB micro cruzer, the USB port itself or it's the USB micro cruzer. One good thing worth to try is plugging your USB micro cruzer on another computer to check if the problem will also occur there. If it does, then it's isolated to the USB device. If there's no other computer available, 1) Try to run an anti-virus and anti-spyware scan on your computer, 2) start up your computer on safe mode and try to check if it'll occur there as well. 3) If it doesn't occur under safe mode and your able to access your USB device, try to run an anti-virus and anti-spyware scan on your USB device to check for problems there. 4) If all else fails, then it could be a problem with the USB device. hope this helps.
