Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

Sony STR AV 370

Hello, I have an oldish Sony STR AV 370 receiver/ amplifier - it will work for a while and then stops producing sound and starts flashing a red "p" light. At this point you can also hear something clicking inside. turning it off at the wall for a while and then trying again seems to fix it. Sometimes it will work with no problems all day and other times just won't come to the party at all!

I would be grateful for any advice you could give me.

Jim

Hi jimec

The flashing of the power light indicates that the unit is going into Protection Mode. The relay clicking inside is the speaker protection relay disconnecting the speakers to prevent any damage to them, or any further damage to the amplifier. When you turn it off, it cools down the fault is rectifying itself, and the unit can functionally normally. The most probable cause of this sort of fault, is dry/ cracked solder joints about power regulators, or audio output stages. If you attend to this before the amp stops working altogether, then you may save some money in more expensive part replacement type repairs.

Can I connect a active subwoofer to my SONY STR-DE597 Powerful 6.1 channel AV Receiver

Yes, it only supports an Active Subwoofer. That's what the Sub Pre-Out is for.

Your sub will take that input, possibly split to two RCA connectors, and its internal amplifier will do the rest. Its own manual will give the specifics.

Hello. my sony receiver is flashing protector mode and no sound is coming out. how do I fix this? thanks, Suzanne

More than likly the built in amplifier is dead and its time to lay it to rest. Before you do that, make sure all your positive and negitives are correct and that none of the wires are touching one another.
