Question about Maxtor 7Y250M0 250GB Serial ATA 7200rpm 8MB Hard Drive, OEM (DSMXSATA250G8M)
HD not readable at boot..first sector bad?..
media is write protected..how to undo? Dell error code 1344
Sounds to me its a bad hard drive. Set it as slave and install it into
another PC with enough empty hard drive space to copy all needed files. Try to observe also your hard drive if there's any clunking sounds and if it does any, eventually that drive of yours is just waiting the right time to give in.
Back up your files as soon as possible.

Restart your computer now as soon as you hit the power button keep on holding Alt key & keep on tapping F10 key Alt+F10 it will open the recovery console select full factory restore and follow on screen instruction
(Note:this will erase all datas on the computer)
During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS using the arrow keys you can load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults ,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart
