My Dell C600 Screen shuts down after 10 minutes

Hello all.

I was hoping one of you learned ones could be of help. My wife has a Dell C600 which has developed a problem recently. After 10-15 minutes of use the screen goes blank. The computer is still running, but no picture. Once it is shut down for a while it starts up again. At first this happened occasionally, but the problem got progressively worse. I thought perhaps the fan was bad and it was overeating, so I went to ebay and got a replacement. Changed the fan and the problem remained. Thinking it was a video problem, I found a new mb on ebay for a good price, so I ordered it. I replaced the old mb with the new one, and...same problem! I hooked up an external monitor and it ran fine all night long, but one I change to laptop screen, down it goes. So before I drop-kick this laptop across the street, does anyone know what may be causing this?

Is the video inverter something I can replace, or is it part on the screen?

Thanks for the advice! I will order one and give it a go. I wish I had posted here before replacing the fan and the MB!

Most likely the video inverter.

Yes, it's something you can replace, usually under the power button bar or the bottom part of the LCD bezel.

    Here's one right here.

How to reset dell xps m1330

Hello,

You may follow the steps mentioned below to restore the Dell XPS M1330 to its factory default:

1 Turn on the computer.

During the boot process, a blue bar with www.dell.com appears at the top of the screen.

2 Immediately upon seeing the blue bar, press <Ctrl><F11>.

If you do not press <Ctrl><F11> in time, let the computer finish starting, and then restart the

computer again.

NOTICE: If you do not want to proceed with PC Restore, click Reboot in the following step.

3 On the next screen that appears, click Restore.

4 On the next screen, click Confirm.

The restore process takes approximately 6-10 minutes to complete.

5 When prompted, click Finish to reboot the computer.

NOTE: Do not manually shut down the computer. Click Finish and let the computer completely reboot.

6 When prompted, click Yes.

The computer restarts. Because the computer is restored to its original operating state, the screens that

appear, such as the End User License Agreement, are the same ones that appeared the first time the

computer was turned on.

7 Click Next.

The System Restore screen appears and the computer restarts.

8 After the computer restarts, click OK.

9 You will need to run Windows Update as well as Live Update for your virus protection as these will be seriously out of date.

Hope this helps..

Cant get dell c600 svideo to stay on tv screen after initial startup

When you have it hooked up go into the screen resolution settings and make your tv a extra monitor. You can either have it the same as your laptop screen or a extra one. You have to enable the tv first thats probably why its shutting off. If i helped please leave me a rating. If you still need help leave me another comment.

Cleaning virus and malware found memory infected

I think it was a case of a slide-in cd drive not fully making contact that must have caused the white screen. I have cleaned the laptop and am returning it to my friend. It had an unverified version of winxp, and I am recommending that they pay for a legit os if they intend to continue to use it. It has only a 10g hdd so it might be better to get a bigger one and upgrade the unit. They will probably just use stick drives for data.
Thanks for your useful site. I have other issues with computers I get in the trash while trying to salvage them. I am setting up a learning center at an area nursing home and getting residents into learning how to use computers since they have a lot of time to learn, if they will.
