Press the down arrow until it disappears. That should disable the data view.

Picture does not appear on the monitor, I must look through the view finder to see what I,m pointing at to photograph

The D40x operates as SLRs have operated for half a century, offering you an optical viewfinder with which to frame and compose your picture. The LCD is for menus, shooting information, and reviewing.

Nikon introduced the live view feature, which allows you to hold your camera so it wobbles at arms' length, with the D3 and D300, released half a year after the D40x.

While almost all current DSLRs have this capability, it was not so common five years ago when the D40x was introduced.

My nikon D40x doesn't seem to work in manual mode, as all of the pictures come out dark. I'm trying to learn how to use manual and although the shutter is releasing very fast, nothing shows up. I am so...

1600 = 1/1600th of a second
try shooting at 125 = 1/125 of a second with an f of about 4? in daylight
something more along the lines of 8 or 1/8th of a second would be better in darker conditions without a flash

no problem but think of it like this....the longer the shutter opens the more light comes in..if your shutter is open very briefly...no light gets in and thus you get a black photo

How do I use the ML-L3 remote with a Nikon d40x?

Set the shooting mode to one of the two remote modes. The quick-response remote mode fires the shutter when you press the button on the remote. The delayed remote mode gives you two seconds to hide the remote behind your back before firing the shutter.

Press the Info button. Use the direction keys to the shooting mode (along the right side, fifth from the top). Press OK. Use up/down to select the remote modes (the two at the bottom).

For full details, refer to the "Shooting Mode" section in the D40x manual.

How do i use the burst mode on my nikon d3000? Thank you.

Press the Info button to bring up the Information display. Press the <i> button to place the cursor in the information display. Highlight the current release mode and press OK. Select the Continuous mode and press OK.

This lets you shoot at up to about three frames a second, depending on the shutter speed, noise reduction settings, and autofocus settings. You cannot use this with the flash.

The camera will shoot pictures as long as you hold down the shutter release button (until the buffer and/or memory card fills up). As you shoot, the viewfinder will show rNN where NN is the approximate number of further pictures you can shoot until the buffer fills up. In JPEG mode you should be able to take a hundred pictures before the buffer fills. The number will be smaller in RAW.

In AF-S and AF-A, the camera will not shoot the next picture until focus is acquired, so when shooting moving subjects or panning the camera, you may not get full speed. Even in AF-C, the camera may "hiccup" occasionally.

Hello. I have the D40X myself and I have had success by going into the menu and locating the reset button. What this does is return the camera to the settings that it had the day it came out of the box. Joe

Nikon d40x shutter stuck

The manual (pg 112) simply, and unfortunately, states this message "Press shutter release button again. If error persists, consult with Nikon-authorized service representative".

Some questions that might help: have you had the camera in some extreme conditions, damp, sand, etc. Clean the shutter button really well. Maybe use a small air blower and clean in the shutter release creases.

In the end, if the error continues, it will need to be serviced.

Camera settings appear on viewfinder screen

Ok I just posted that I had the same problem and I just figured it out by trial and error. What I did was
press the playback button.
press OK
it will take you to the edit picture menu and the first choice is D-lighting. It should be highlighted Yellow. press Ok and then the screen will come up with 2 of your picture with different lighting. choose which ever one you want then press OK. The image will save and then the camera info should go away. I have NO idea why this worked but it did and I hope this works for you!!

Faulty nikon d40

I had the same error message, the camera is less then a year old, however, I was taking up to 800 pictires every weekend of my kids soccer games, then a 6 month trip to the Pursian Gulf, that is when it started, I got back home, took it right in, and one year later after a few visits and calls trying to find out where my camera was, I finally got an answer back, they said I needed a new shutter which will cost $300, They said I should just by a new body for $400. What Nikon does is set that error message to pop up at about 35000 shutter releases, and you can't do a thing about it, once they hooked my camera up to thier system the said I had over 36000 shutter releases, where the average person takes 10000 a year and they want you to replace the body every 3 years....so before buying any camera, always check out how many shutter releases you can get when you buy a camera
