see if battery has a charge - or try the usb cable

1) test the main switch for open, must be read continuity see the diagram.
2) replace with the same type alkaline, and full charges.
3) test if the polarities is in the wrong direction
4) clean contacts battery with c. cleaner very well.

You don't need any software in order to use your camera.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or, despite what I said first, you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa.

You can't. This camera does not charge the battery in the camera. You need to remove the battery and put it into the battery charger.

If you no longer have the charger, a replacement can be obtained cheaply from Amazon. I like the "Universal" chargers, which have adjustable contacts and can charge any of the small lithium batteries found in cameras and phones. These are available for as little as three US dollars. Mine will plug into a wall socket or a car cigarette lighter socket.

the only way to fix this issue without voiding any thing is too bring it back, But make sure you have the receipt for it bring it back and trade it for a new one.

If this is true, then why does the manual for my new PowerShot SD1100 IS say, "Do not connect compact power adapters or battery chargers to devices such as electrical transformers for foreign travel because it may lead to malfunctions, excessive heat generation, fire, electric shock or injury."

Is this just a standard disclaimer in case something weird happens by using a transformer to charge the battery?
