Check to make sure both battery cables are tight on the battery. Make sure the positive(red) battery cable is tight where it attaches to the starter. The other end of the black cable will be attached to the engine block for ground, check for loose bolt. If everything is tight, look for corrosion damage on the cables. You may need to get under the car to check the wires on the starter to make sure they are all tight. If you don't find any loose wires or cables and the cables and battery are good, then the starter may be going out.

Batt. and alt. only last 6 months or so then won't start car

Ok, if the cranking amps is like 70AMPs or 100 AMPS as measured by an inductive ammeter on the battery cable when starting, and it does NOT start, then it's a bad starter.

However, if it does start, that's normal.

On a car that old, I would check that the battery cable ends are squeaky clean, wire brushed, or even replaced if cleaning is not possible.

Usually, a battery that is tested good will be good under a load test.

Also, try to use an ammeter to find out if there is a drain on the battery above .2 A while it sits there turned off. This could lead to a solution if you investigate where a short may be.

I have a 91 mazda mx6 it will turn over but will not always fire up,but when it does it may run for a long time or it may die rite away and then sometimes it'll start up and sometimes I can crank the batt....

Check the air intake tube that goes to the throttle body, Check for cracks or leaks, This can cause unmetered air to get by the mass air flow sensor

I have a 96 chevy blazer v 6 . it is hard to start. cold or warm. sometimes it starts when i crank the engine with quick turns of the key. if i hook up a set of jumper cables to another car it starts...

Cejck the primary and secondary resistance of your coil - you may also want to check the voltage drop of your battery when your starter soleniod is engaged as well. If the tarter soleniod is starting to go it will pull too much current.

My 03 mc will not start. i turn the key and no engine sound of any kind. batt has been replaced due to the other one being dead for some strange reason. it happens very infrequently.. which makes it hard...

you got a loose connection there...have the terminals cleaned and tightened properly. Watch out for a short circuits...be careful with the positive terminal as not to touch the negative or the vehicle chassis.
