What make and model camera?
Many cameras will not display photos if they have been taken with a different type of camera or have been edited in any way.

Check the format of your video file, it may be hidden if it has different file extension for which your computer does not have the application to view.

Regarding your files got deleted, you might selected the option to move the files from your camera to your computer instead of copy the files.
