Question about Refrigerators

Whirpool conquest refrigerator-about 8 years old-not cold enough

Is there a history with this model, because this is the second time this refrigerator basically doesnt cool on both sides.the foodis defrosting on the freezer and the fridge is making my food spoil.the motor runs and i can see the fan working in the back where the condensor is.i had the temp setting on half way for both sides, but even when i set it to max. it doesnt cool at all!
theres no frosting that i can see.so im thinking then that its something to do with the thermostat?
is that right?
would it be then the defrost timer, fridge thermostat,or a defective temp. control?
what do you think?

  • if it does not cool at all then i would suspect the start switch on the side of the compressor or the compressor itself.
  • if the previous repair included tapping into the freon line then it could be the freon leaked out.
  • if the thermostat was bad then the refrigerator fans would not be running,
  • and if the defrost timer was bad (stuck in defrost = not cooling) then the fans would not be running.
  • i don't know of any bad history with this particular model
  • double check the back wall of the freezer to make sure there is no buildup of frost, because this would be a defrost issue.
  • if it is getting a little cold but not cold enough then let me know the temps

Whirpool gold

I did some research online, and read that the Start Relay is most commonly the problem. My husband bought the part, (about $50) and reattached it to the side of the compressor....and was cold immediately! apparently a very common problem on these fridges.

Conquest water filter in my whirpool side by side

yes it is. as long as there is still water coming out from the dispenser.

the red light only indicates that it is about time to replace the filter. could be 6 months old. this is controlled by time, so check your water pressure at the dispenser, if it is still strong, then you could still use it .

depending on your condition, some filters would be clogged already even if the light is still green and there is no more water coming out of your dispenser.

normal time to replace the filter is six months.
