Question about Garmin StreetPilot c510 Deluxe GPS Receiver
Hi, I bought the download of Europe maps to install to my Garmin C510 and a 2GB SD card. When I go to install the maps it always tells me there is not enough space on my unit, and there is no option to install the maps to the SD card. Could someone let me know how I install the maps to the SD card on a Mac?
Also the SD card shows up as a seperate drive to my garmin unit on my desk top. Do i need to format the card in some way for the maps to upload to the card?
Take a look at the Garmin support page - there is a Question " Why do I get a not enough space message on my Nuvi2xx when trying to update my mapping?"
It tells you how to remove the unused voice files to free up space.
I have a Nuvi 255WT and deleting the voice files alone was not enough, so I set about removing a lot of other stuff *** NOTE THAT IF YOU FOLLOW WHAT I DID, DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK **** it worked for me but there is always the risk of deleting a file that the device needs.
Also I was stupid and didn't try and save the files to a directory on my MAC before deleting them, from the satnav - worth a try so that if you can do that you have a chance of recovering one that you delete if you want it back.
First I also removed the un-needed text files - leaving only the 3 British-English files
Then I removed all of the POI files that were clearly examples/samples
Then I removed all of the Vehicle files except the one I was using
Then I removed all of the large ExtData files - now that was the one that caused me the most worry as I wasn't certain what they were there for!
This gave me a bit over 140Mbyte of free space which was enough to install the 2010 update for all of Europe.
Now I don't know whether the C510 has the same amount/less/more memory than the 255WT - so this may or may not work for you.
I didn't have an SD card available, which is why I went this far. I am going to get one and see if I can find out how to load the maps onto that.
cheers - Jeremy

It installs on the device always. You have too much information on the Device. You are not going to be able to install them without deleting some stuff.
If this helps at all, please rate this a FixYa. - Evolution

Your unit came with UK mapping but the update mapping is slightly larger than the previous versions as it has more detail.
To get around the issue you are experiencing you need to install any region offered onto your GPS device. Once you have done this go to my computer and then go to the Garmin drive followed by the Garmin folder.Once you have opened the Garmin folder you need to delete a file called GMAPPROM.IMG. Once you have done this you will be able to get UK onto the device by using the "MapInstall"
program. To get to the "Map Install" program you go to "Start", "All Programs", "Garmin" then "MapInstall". The whole of Europe will fit on a 2Mb card again using the "MapInstall" program to transfer the information to the card.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
