Question about Kenmore Elite 45986 Front Load Washer

1 Answer

Filter cleaned, re-set computer, still F2 error

We having been having a problem with our Kenmore ELite HE3 either going into SUD and then eventually changing to F2 or just going straight to F2 for a couple of weeks now. I would stop the cycle, let it 'rest' for a couple of hours (anything less was too soon) then go through a drain and spin cycle. Until yesterday, that worked.

We thought it was an issue caused from DH cleaning up a spill of LOTS of liquid detergent with several beach towels, not telling me they were soaked with detergent, and me running them through a wash cycle. Clearly, this would cause a SUD message. We have pulled the drain hose out of the wall drain and now hav it drining into the utility sink to make sure it was a machine issue and not a plumbing issue. We also opened the top, unplugged and and replugged (?) to reset the computer.

I just ran an empty load with no soap to see if the machine would complete a cycle. No go. Everything is fine until the last drain and spin. One thing we have noticed is a rattle in the pump that sounds like something being bounced around in there when the pump is running. The pump is not overheating as far was we can tell. Is there a way to remove the pump and see if there is an obstruction that we can remove? I am about to head off to the laundrymat with about 10 loads of clothes.

Oops, sorry. Forgot to say we already did that. Saw it on another post, found some change and assorted bits. Unfortunately that is not the problem. The impeller seems to move freely when I checked it. It sounds as though something is actually inside the pump mechanism itself, the mysterious black box to the right of the filter. Do we just replace the pump?

I apologize for not mentioning that before. Once this problem is cleared up, I will check the filter regularly and tell my friends that have front loaders. It should be a part of regular maintanence in the owners manual.

Based upon your description, the drain pump has either failed or become clogged.
To check the pump, remove the bottom access panel (three screws along the bottom panel). There you will find access to the pump clean-out.(Large,white screw cap) BE READY TO CATCH LOTS OF WATER. CAREFULLY AND S_L_O_W_L_Y unscrew the pump clean-out, catching and discarding the water. When the water flow finally stops, completely remove the clean-out filter. Inspect the clean-out filter, the drain hose from the tub as well as inside the pump impeller for any additional debris.

Depending on the pump configuration, the motor can be removed from the housing with either three screws or by depressing a plastic latch and twisting.
There are cases where the impeller will work loose from the motor shaft and begin rubbing on the pump housing.
Should the motor have failed, the motor and pump housing is replaced as a single unit. Cost is around $70.00.

I'm so lucky to have found this posting. I had the same problem and replaced the drain pump with a used one I found locally for 25.00. You just saved me hundreds of dollars! I first had called a repair shop that told me they would charge 70.00 just to come to my house and an additional 50.00 per hour for labor.:))))))))

I have a kenmore elite HE3 washer. I was getting the sud error and then eventually F02. I cleaned out all the drain lines and pump filter trap and this did not help. I've now replaced the pump

I endevor to purchase a new unit. I've had the same electrical issue with the "F" variable coming up for EACH cycle. I've pressed the Pause/Cancel button and attempted to resume the cycle. While that did work, again, the "F" would come up and the cycle disrupted. I think I will end up paying quite a bit to have it serviced. My washer is 7 years old and I've had it serviced twice to date. I intend on purchasing new in the New Year, a Samsung or LG.

Kenmore elite h3 front load washer is not working error code f2 flashes

Hello,

The F2 error code mean that the washer didn't drain the water within the normal time it takes to drain, usually the reson the washer hasn't drained properly is because the filter screen on the drain pump is clogged with debris. this tip i have written will show ya how to clean the filter on the pump.

My He3 continues to stop mid cycle. Usually I see something like SUD or a P on the screen. If I push stop/cancel and then start again usually it will eventually get through the cycle. Sometimes I have to...

The following link explains how to troubleshoot a "SUD" error on a Kenmore Elite HE3:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608687-sud_error

First, verify you are using the CORRECT laundry detergent. If you are, make sure you are using the correct amount (some of these detergents are double (2X) and triple (3X) concentrated.

Next, you may have an obstruction in the drain pump that is restricting water flow. Too much air detected in the draiange system can generate the error code. There is a follow-on link included that explains how to check the pump.

These are the two MOST common causes of the problem you are experiencing. If you have any questions, or have continued problems, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

He3 elite kenmore- sUD and F21 error

Hello there"
Sud SUDS LOCK (Overdose of Detergent detected during the Wash Cycle)
The motor control unit senses a suds lock condition by analyzing the current draw on the drive motor. If "Sud" is displayed a potential suds lock is detected. This may signify a bad pump, an extra heavy load, excessive detergent, or excessive suds.
  • If too much detergent was used, run the unit through a Rinse/Spin cycle, then a Normal cycle, without adding any detergent. This should clear the unit of the excess detergent.
  • Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked.
  • Check Wire Harness connectors to the Drain Pump, Pressure Switch, and Central Control Unit (CCU)
  • Check/Clean Drain Pump Filter of foreign objects
  • Check Drain Pump
  • Check Pressure Switch
  • Check CCU

How do you get to the drain filter on a kenmore elite he3 washer to clean it?

The following link explains how to access the drain pump on a Kenmore Elite HE3 front loader to clean the drain pump:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385844-checking_drain_pump_kenmore_elite_front

If you are experiencing drainage issues and cleaning the pump does not work, you may have to replace the drain pump. You will usually experience an "F2", "SUD" or "F21" error code (depending on model number) for a drain blockage problem. Since this error code occurs when the drain cycle exceeds 8 minutes, if the pump motor or impeller becomes damaged, the pump will not pump at the required volume and the error code will continue to occur. Replacement pumps can be purchased on line at:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

Prices vary between these sites, so shop all of them for the best deal.

NOTE: Make sure you also check the drain hose and the inlet hose that runs from the bottom of the wash tub to the drain pump. Small articles of clothing can commonly get lodged in this area.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

I have kenmore elite he3 and it is flashing f 02 and then it will flash sud. Water will not all drain out of it,

HI. this code represents a Long Drain issue.

If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes, the water valves are turned off and F02 is flashed.

Press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to clear the display.

NOTE: After 4 minutes the “Sud” error will be displayed, then 4 minutes later the F02 error code will be displayed.

Potential Causes

• Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked
• Check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure the pump is running.
• Check the drain pump filter for foreign objects
• If the above does not correct the problem replace the pump

I had the same issue with a brand new wash. The issue I found was the installers installed the drain line too low. The drain line needs to be a minimum of 39" above the floor. Hope this helps -- Kent

HELP!!

We've had this problem for about a yr when i finally firgured out how to correct it.
the problem is that the circuit board is attached to the washer, when it starts to shake it causes the connections to loosen and theats the fault code you get.
How I fixed this was to suspend the circuit from a bungie strap this will allow the washer to shake all it wants and the circuit board is stable, connections stay tight andwasher works fine, after 6 months not one error code at all

Probably something caught in pump. Remove lower panel if this one has it and you will see the pump. Loosen the round cover in middle to access clean-out.
