Hello,
A few days ago I noticed that the stuff in my freezer was cold but no lnoger frozen. I checked for the usual noises and the fans are working but I don't remember hearing the compressor kick on for awhile. Both the fridge and freezer are cool right now but neither is as cold as it should be, even with the controls set to the coldest setting.
Anyone have any ideas here? This was bought in the summer of 2001. Also, I am a novice and have only worked on a refridgerator once before....I realize that assuming it needs a part that it shouldn't be too hard to replace but then wouldn't I have to also replace freon as a result?
I am trying not only to find out what the problem is but to get through this without calling for service as I really can't afford the labor charge right now.
Mine is only 3 years old. Food in freezer is thawing, fridge is cool but not cold. My neighbor had the dame problem and ltold me to get all the food out, Let the fridge completely coll/thaw for several hours, then turn it on & all should be good to go. Apparently there was a block in the cooling line or vent, caused by an ice chunk. I am waiting now, for everything to thaw wout before i turn it back on & check to see if her theory worked.
Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if
there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not
defrosting as it should.
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice
melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if
is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above
items.
