Sony dcr-dvd300 won't record video

My Sony DCR-DVD300 won't record video -- only audio. Zoom doesn't work either. LCD and viewfinder are both black during standby and record mode for both video and still shots.

Try resetting the Camcorder to the factory settings by pressing the reset button. If the issue persists, try power resetting the camcorder. To power reset, remove the battery of the Camcorder and press and hold the power button for 30 second(or turn the Power switch to ON position for 30 seconds) and reinsert the battery after one minute and check the operation. If the issue still persists, the service is required.

DCR-DVD300 HAS AN INTERMITENT "NO DISK READING" & "NO SUPPOERTED FILE ON DISK" PROBLEM

maybe a dirty burner lens. try to playback a cd rom lens cleaner disk, the one with a tiny brush on the middle of disk, never use any liquid solutions.
Norton disk recovery is better if not the best software in retrieving unreadable files on cd disk. check your dvd disk too, it maybe not compatible to the unit.
