Question about Pioneer Projection Televisions

4 Answers

Hi I have a Pioneer PDP-436XDE its over 3 years old and has worked perfectly until today when it switched itself off and would not switch back on. Ive unplugged it from the mains and left it for some time but when I try to switch it back on the blue on light comes on and it looks like its going to be ok then the screen goes off and the red standby light on the tv flashes 7 times then pauses. Please can you give me some advice on how to fix this problem? Thanks Sam

Thanks Gopi20 but what do I need to do to get this problem resolved. I'm not technical at all so your response doesn't really help me apart from giving me the detail to pass to a repair company?! Just thought its worth noting that I live in the UK not sure of this makes any difference to the problem or resolution?!

Looks like there may have been a recall for the power board in some Pioneer TVs, see here: http://www.avforums.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-322536.html

I would contact Pioneer, you may be able to get service for free or at a reduced rate.

Flashing 7-8 times is faulty power board. You need to contact a technician, follow instructions on the last pages of the user manual to contact a service in your area.

The reason for your tv not switching on properly may be due to

The main filter capacitor or other filter capacitors in the low voltage power supply is dried up and this can cause all kinds of regulation problems.

The power supply regulator is defective (or marginal) allowing excessive voltage on its output and then the X-ray protection circuitry shuts you down.

blue or red colour may be due to fault in chroma decoder circuitry.

the flashing light is more than likely the fault code. but those can be wrong bet even money that the door has a sensor to know if its open and the the bi-metallic switch is on the fritz look around the door see of the is a small pressure actuated switch the opens and closes with the door if so all else checks out 85 % chance that will be you problem

Hi,

Offhand, it would seem that the unit's problem is either heat related or a cold solder/loose connection. I would discount the possibility of a defective component since if it so then the unit would not even open up.

Pls post back if you are contemplating on doing diagnosis and possible repair yourself. Should you venture a DIY, pls be reminded of safety precautions when working with electrical devices. Of course this would also require a bit of familiarity with electronic components and circuitry, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. Access to a service manual or at least a schematic diagram with voltage measurements would make the diagnosis a lot easier. Should you be uncomfortable going this route, perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

If you put magnet speaker ( Standard speaker) near the TV, first you must move that speaker away from your TV because this will cause your colour TV screen color scattered. Then switch off your TV for 5 hrs. then switch it ON again your problem will be solved if the degaussing coil working.

Pioneer SD-P6091 Projection TV - TV turns off by itself

I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.

Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors. Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected due to these defective capacitors.
Solutions?
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.

Hope this helps

Lost the controller for Pioneer rear projection TV

Try pressing the "Input" button the front of the set. That should allow you to change between the different inputs. The return button usually returns you to the previous channel you were watching - don't think it works for the input though. Also, depending on the model of the set you have, try downloading the PDF user or owners manual - it will tell you how to use the remote.
