Question about Sony KP-65XBR10W 65" Rear Projection Television

Trinitron XBR Projection - No Picture

I picked up a Trinitron XBR VideoScope Projection television which has no picture and not much except for a small click in the back of the unit happens when I go to turn it on. The red stand-by light flashes continuously, and there seems to be some interval between the flashes, but I have not counted them.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

    The model is a KP53XBR45.

  • DustinF534 Jul 06, 2008

There is no INPUT or MENU button on the front of the TV. There IS the TV/Video button, but that's all, along with the Channel, Volume, and Power buttons.

There does not seem to be any interval between the flashes. It does seem to flash 9 times, then pause for a split second, then continue flashing with no other intervals.

9 flashes is the ZCD error. Zero crossing error detector.
If you press on the remote, display,5, vol down, power, the TV will power up in diagnostic mode. ie. 9 ZCD 180 was found on the one I am working on. (Error 9 ZCD was encountered 180 times.)

I am waiting on the service bulletin but from what I have found on here, the first thing to try is to resolder several components.

    On the A-board, D611, D690 and I think Q605, Q690 and D647 (may be on C board?)

so dustin, if u have technical knowledge resolder the components..if u don't know to solder, plz cal d near by technician, he ll solve ur problem..

When it shuts off. Try doing what's called a self-diagnostic test.
As soon as the television shuts try these steps.

Pressing on the front panel's ?INPUT? and ?MENU? buttons at the same time, and holding for 5 seconds,
activates the Self Diagnostic Code Mode. The LED flashes denoting a two digit Error Code, or indicating no problem
has occured since the last Initalization.

Please do Note: The front panel buttons must be used, NOT those on the Remote Control.

? The number of flashes indicates the value of the MSD (tens digit) of the Error Code.
? The flashing then pauses for approximately 1/2 second.
? The LED then flashes indicating the value of the LSD (ones digit) of the Error Code.
? The Error Code is repeated a total of 5 times.
Example: If the Error Code is ?24?, the LED will flash two times, pause, and then flash four
times.

The Error Code designations indicating a malfunction, or no malfunction, are listed below:
Self Diagnosic Code Description
1 - 2 = no error detected
2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current)
2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies)
2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection)
2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source).

Certainly, I can help you. I would recommend going to the following link and getting the service manual so you can see first hand disassembly instructions and testing procedures. Its only 10.99 and they email it to you shortly after purchase. The manual is a valuable resource as it will have part numbers in case you do need a new KD board. heres the link.

Good luck..............

would think you need to replace the cable board etc. the signal is not getting in and out right. can also be a fault on the power board giving the wrong volts so would check this to. it will tell you on the board what volts is supposed to be. the 5v and 12v should be spot on other volts will vary a little. also check the capacitors for the caps to be bowed up and a brown/ yellow gunk around them and under the board this can be a sign they are failing.

My sony videoscope XBR tv has a pink picture and no control. Also nothing is in enlish.

the model listed is a very old set---parts may not be available----language can be selected in the menu but the pink may be a adjustment of the screens (controls) or a circuit problem.

TV has sound no picture, Sony Videoscope xbr

Please post both the exact model number (on the back) and the blink count. The standby light should be blinking a repeated pattern. That info will indicate the problem circuit and allow us to provide you with the proper parts/steps to resolve this.

Thanks,
