I have the exact same problem - compressor won't shut off and lower section goes to 32 degrees despite having it set to 44 degrees. Seems like a thermostat problem.

I found the solution to my case. The continuous compressor running problem started a few days after we moved the unit from a hardwood floor to a room where it is on a carpet. For some reason, this caused some sort of freeze up. I solved the issue by raising the unit about 1/2" using a couple of boards I had and placing them under the legs. Now I need to figure out a bit more visually pleasing solution, but raising it up cured my freezing problem.

My apologies - I have to amend my previous post.  The freezing problem came back despite raising the unit off the floor.

The REAL fix was to order a new thermostat from Danby and replace it.  It wasn't too difficult to do - the thermostat is a small circuit board that is in the separator between the upper and lower sections, right behind the temperature indicators.  To get to it, you need to remove the top two shelves (one screw on each side holding a clip to keep the shelf in place), and two screws on top of the separator panel.  The thermostat is held in place by four clips that you can squeeze closed with needle nosed-pliers, then pull up on the circuit board.  You need to swap about 10 connectors for the various temperature sensors, fans, temperature indicators, etc., and push the card back into place on the four clips.  Finally, replace the top separator panel and shelf clips and you are done.

I got the part from Danby customer service (1-800-263-2629) - the lady called it the thermostat, but the invoice shows it as a "DWC 282 Control Panel," part number JG32DQ-05, for about $35 including shipping.  Sears Parts also carries the part, but it's a bit more expensive and currently on back order.  The website does have a parts diagram, but the part they indicate is the "Controller" doesn't really look like the actual part.

    Hope this helps!

Has anyone replaced a compressor relay on this chiller? Looks like it is not designed for replacement, but if it can be done with a generic relay I would like to know. Thanks.

The cost of one of those compressors is over $100. When you factor in tax and labor you're better off junking it. Its also possible you have a compressorless cooler called Peltier.

Unit does not get cool. I can hear the compressor kick on, but it goes off about 15 seconds later. After a minute or so it goes on again only to shut off again

That is probably the compressor relay
The relay is on the compressor and needs replaced
A relay starts the compressor with a higher voltage and then quickly kicks out
Thats what is happening with yours
Its best for a tech to replace The relay but you can do it
Take your model number to your Local Appliance parts store they will have a diagram
showing you how to install the relay. Its called a hard start relay

The Danby wine cooler Model #DWC440BL-3 runs continously and is not cooling. There is a gurging sound from the compressor or the unit.

Sounds like the unit may have lost the refrigeration charge and or there is a problem with the compressor. Check your warranty depending how long you have own the unit it may be covered.

A manual can be downloaded from the following site.

We have a danby dwc283bls wine cooler that no longer cools, and the compressor gets warm (above normal) does it need to be recharged

that's always a possibility but not always the case. The thermostat may not be cycling correctly or set wrong. The condenser could be dirty or if there is a fan, it may not be running. Freeze ups can also cause an "Out of temp." condition. Check it out.

Danby DWC513BLS does not cool. Fan is on, but compressor does not turn on to lower temperature even when temperature is turned down. Where does one get parts for this online

Before you worry about where to get parts, you need to know what is wrong and what parts you will need. When a compressor does not run but the fan motor does, then either the compessor is bad (in which case you need refrigeration expertise) or the starter components have failed ( in which case you can replace. The two most common failed parts are the start relay or the overload (both attached to the compressor. Goodluck, Macgivor

Danby wine cooler compresser not running and is hot

The compressor needs to be tested to see if it's operational. This normally needs to be done by a service tec.
