Kx-tg2740s disconnection problems

I just bought a panasonic kx-tg2740s (same family as the tg2730s,
tg2720s, etc.) and three additional handsets. Unfortunately the
headsets disconnect randomly every few minutes, as if the user
had pressed the "OFF" button. Prior to the disconnection,
communication is clear and there appears to be no interference.
Has anybody experienced this problem?

I should add that there is a 802-11b transceiver (Linksys, USB)
about 15 feet from the base unit. I haven't tried turning it off
yet.

In any case, unless this is a faulty base, the system is fairly
useless as it is.

Wouldn't that be the first thing to try? Try changing the frequency
that the wireless LAN is using and put more distance between the two.
