Question about Whirlpool Ultimate Care II LSQ9549L Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Cannot remove console top

I need to replace the lid switch and to to so the top console must be lifted or tilted.  My understanding is that there are two configurations -- (1) tabs in the front corner that can be released by pushing a putty knife against the tabs and lifting up, or (2) consoles with removable end caps which can be gently priesed up with a screw driver.

Neither seem to fit my unit's configuration.  I can see, on each of the four corners, a plastic fitting/connector -- I tried prying without success.

Can anybody help.

Edmor

Look in the back of the console, in each bottom corner there will be a screw, unscrew until the console can be pushed forward. The screw doesn't have to be completely removed.

How do i change door switch

Replacing the lid switch is not complicated, but you must take care in removing the console.

First slide a putty knife between the console and the top on both the left and right side. What you are trying to do is push a metal clip back so that the console can be lifted from the front and tilted up. This is the part to be careful so that you don't bread the plastic clips in the back.

After you have the console up, disconnect the lid switch harness to the top and there are two metal clips holding the top to the back panel. With a flat-head screw driver remove the clips.

The entire cabinet is ready to be lifted off the chassis. Just lift and pull forward to remove cabinet. You then can replace the lid switch. Just re-assemble in the reverse order.

good luck

Mine wont spin

Your problem is more likely a broken lid switch. To test for this, lift the washer cover and look for a small hole in the washer top where the cover was. Push a toothpick gently into the hole and press the piece of plastic you see in the hole downward and listen for a soft clicking sound. If you don't hear a click or the plastic tab is not in the hole replace the lid switch.

Unplug the washer. Check the actuator on the lid that operates the lid switch to see if broken. Open the console of the washer. After removing the screws, the console will lift up and hinge back. Disconnect the plug going to the lid switch. Picture. Check the lid switch [lid closed] with an ohm meter from the wire plug-in leading to the switch. If no continuity, replace the lid switch. You will need to remove the cabinet to replace the switch. There are only a couple screws holding the lid switch assembly and a ground wire connection to the cabinet. Reassemble the washer and test the operation.

Unplug washer, remove the two console screws and tilt console back, remove cabinet clips, unlock lid switch block and then remove the cabinet. Remove the lid switch mounting screws, disconnect ground wire and remove lid switch assembly. Compare old switch to the new one. If the plastic sleeve of the new switch is longer, break off at the score mark. Pull wire partially out of sleeve before shortening sleeve. If the sleeve had to be shortened, the wires must be looped to take up the excess wire. Use supplied wire tie from the new kit. Install new switch assembly. New lid switch

Pay VERY close attention to assembling case back onto base so that sides engage tabs in base.

Kenmore Elite washer will not agitate after fills with water. It appears that the switch in the lid is broke. Tried to lift up the top of the washer (where knobs are...but could remove all but the big...

The knobs do not have to be removed......

To access the lid switch, first lift the console by one of three ways.
  • 1. The trim on either side can be pried off from the top, grasp and pull forward to expose to expose a screw.
  • 2. Look in the back of the console, in each corner there will be a screw, unscrew until the console can be pushed forward.
  • 3. insert a putty knife under each corner, push to release a latch.
With console lifted:
1. You will find a lid switch connector (white in color). Unplug the switch from the connector.

2. There will be two brass colored clips. Place a flat blade screwdriver straight down into the opening on top of the washer and into the groove of the clip. Push the screwdriver down and away from you and the clip will release.

3. Open the lid of the washer and place your hand under the front rim of the opening (DO NOT grab the wash tub). Tilt and slide cabinet forward to remove.

If you need further assistance, let me know

Taking off shell of washing machine

Remove the shell:
nplug the machine. Remove the end caps on both sides of the console by putting a flat screwdriver in the top of the end caps from the back and gently prying up. Remove the two Phillips screws holding the corners of the console down. Lift the console and gently fold back. Unplug the lid switch. That's the 3-wire quick disconnect below the timer. (If you have a high price model, you'll have three hoses under a plastic cover on the left. disconnect those hoses before going further.)
Using a flat screwdriver remove the gold clips holding the cabinet to the back. Place the blade of the screwdriver in the indentation closest to you and tilt the handle of the screwdriver back.
Open the lid. Lift and tilt the entire cabinet toward you. Look down through the hole to the front bottom edge of the cabinet. It is hooked under the front edge of the washer frame. Remove the cabinet and place it aside.
Replacing the shell:
Pick up the cabinet, hook it under the front of the frame, and tilt it back into place. Push the sides of the cabinet in as you are tilting it back to make sure the hooks in the frame (back, sides) line up with the cabinet. You can know it's in place when the edges of the cabinet line up evenly with the edges of the back.
Re-install the gold clips. Hook them into the back panel, put them into the slots in the cabinet, and push down until they snap into place. Re-connect the lid switch. Lower the console. Replace the screws. Replace the end caps - bottom first, then snap them in at the top.
Happy washing!

If the motor makes no noise in the spin cycle only, it sounds like you need a lid switch.
Unplug the machine.
Remove the cabinet and place it in a position you can work under it.
The lid switch is held in lpace with two Phillips screws on the right edge of the hole. There is also a 5/16 in ***** holding the ground wire to the cabinet. Install the new switch using all the clips and screws that were holding the old switch in place.
