You may not be saving the BIOS settings. Usually it's a press of F10 then it asks if you want to save and exit, say YES, then reboot. If this is not saving the settings, try going directly into your PCs boot menu, which is usually F10 or F12 at boot time. Select the CD and hit Enter, if it doesn't boot from there, you have a bad drive or it's on the wrong jumper setting.

I canot boot my pc i select f12 then coming boot menu i select boot from cd rom but not display press any key to boot

If I understand what you are asking, you want to boot from CD but the boot from cd/dvd at start up is not showing up. It sounds like you have set in your BIOS enable boot from CD/DVD, But to be able to boot from CD/DVD you need to "in your BIOS" go to drive manager or it could be called boot drive priority, something llike that and put the CD/DVD drive first or at least before your Hard Drive.
That should make this show up for you now as long as its a bootable CD/DVD disk.
Hope this helps.

I can't boot it from the cd... how?

Booting from a CD requires a bootable CD, be sure that your CD is bootable. But first, check is your CD drive is working properly. Check also on your BIOS setup (pressing F2 upon power on)to check if your CD drive is properly configured and installed. Check also the BOOTING preferences, you can set to Boot first from a CD DRIVE or from a HARD DRIVE.
Good luck

I want to istall a new Hard drive, and I want to

Assuming you don't already have a second drive with an OS loaded then you will just need a boot disk or a Windows XP installation disc. Install the drive and then insert the CD. Power the PC on with the disk in the drive an you should get a message to boot from CD, just answer yes (note: the PC may boot automatically off the CD). If this doesn't work then you will probably have to go into the bios and change the boot order to make the CD as the first boot source. Entering the bios is different on each PC so, you will just have to find out the key sequence, usual buttons are ESC, F2, or CTRL+DEL.

Cannot boot up in cd drive and will not boot up in ms-dos

You should set your boot up sequence to boot up first in cdrom in bios settings. Then load a bootable cdrom in your drive before booting up.

If this doesn't happen, cd disk non bootable or drive defective.

Os instalation will not load

Hi Dobssand, the most common reason for a CD-ROM (With a Windows CD in it) does not start to load is the motherboard's bios is not set correctly. While in the bios go to the title Boot & enter boot order. This is a common boot order for a PC.
1st boot device = [Floppy disk drive]
2nd boot device = [CD-ROM drive] (Model number of the CD-ROM drive).
3rd boot device = [Primary Hard Disk Drive] (Model number of drive).

Second most common reason is the data cable to the CD-ROM drive is loose or not fully connected either at the CD-ROM or at the motherboard. (Check it).
If you choose not to enter your bios, you can still get the CD-ROM drive to boot the Win CD in this fashion. Load the Win CD into the CD-ROM drive. Power off the system. Than power on the system & start to press the F8 key once every two seconds. Windows "Please select boot device:" window will open. Using your keyboards up & down arrow keys high-light the CD-ROM drive that has the win CD in it & press the enter key. Windows should start to load. If you receive an error message stating windows can not find your hard disk drive. Than you must enter your bios & go to the title Boot. Your hard disk drive is not listed in the boot order section. Worst case! Your hard disk drive may be faulty. Find the manufactures name printed on a large white sticker on once side of the HDD. Go to the manufactures web site & download their drive setup software so you can create a bootable floppy disk. This will allow you to check/test the HDD & format it for a windows installation.

Or is this not the issue you are having?

Good luck!
Mike

Changing Boot Set Up

you need to go to the bios setting, upon switching on you need to press delete to enter to the bios setting (note: some motherboards uses either F1 or F2 or F10 defends on your MOBO) then go to boot set up, select the first boot device as the cd rom then save and exit (F10)
