Trying to get internet on both of my computers at home

Just purchased a rangeplus wireless router and want to get my other computer to work on line with the router. I was told I need either an ethernet cable or an adapter. would rather have an adapter but don't know which one to get and how do I install it? please let me know if this would be an easy task or would I have to bring my computer in for this and also what the price would be for the cable and the adapter. Thanks

Well, for your question about which one you should get, it depends, if you have a desktop PC get a PCI card, these might be pretty hard to install, so i don't recommend buying them, and if you do buy them, get a technician to install it or follow the install instructions that came with it, or if you don't want to waste time, buy a USB adapter, they practically configure themselves, or if you have a notebook (laptop), it depends on what your computer uses for expansion, so if you have a laptop, you might want to take it in to the store before you buy your wireless card so that a person there can take a look at it, but i'll give you this advice, most new computers have an expansion port, if your system has one, i would buy a notebook wireless card that plugs into an expansion port. as for your question about how to install them, it also depends, if you buy a USB adapter, they just plug in and the computer does the rest, if you buy a notebook adapter for your notebook, than it would just slide in, and all you have to do is install the drivers and your ready to go, if you buy a PCI card for your desktop, it is a bit hard for the average user (which i assume is you), and if you don't want to risk messing up your computer, i suggest avoiding this type of card a just using a cable and moving all your desktops to the a central location near your router. And as for the price of each, cables typically cost less than adapters, and that's all I can give you right now because all stores have different prices for items. hoped this has helped. And remember, USB adapters can be used on any computer with a USB port and meets the minimum system requirements.

Setup a linksys wireless router, unable to access admin webpage using 192.168.1.1, and reset button didn't work either.

Use an Ethernet cable to connect between one of the LAN ports on the router (not the WAN port) to the network-port on your computer.

On your computer, click Start
Click Run
Type CMD
Press ENTER
Type IPCONFIG
Press ENTER
Look for a line of output something like:
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.32.1
Start Internet Explorer
Click Tools
Click Internet Options
Click Connections
Click LAN settings
Click to remove *ALL* the check-marks.
Click OK
Click OK
Take that '192.168.xxx.yyy' IP-address, from above,
and enter http://192.168.xxx.yyy into the input-area.
You should now see the router's "login" page.

Will not read internet connection

Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

At the end of installing rangeplus wireless router, I got a message that I had no internet connection but my internet works fine when I hook it right into the computer

If you have ADSL (high speed over the internet) you might have to clone your mac address or call your provider to reset the mac address assigned to your modem. If you have Cable internet most of the time just resetting (power cycle) the modem will fix the issue.

Linksys rangeplus drops wireless connection ever 5-10 mins

Intermittent Connectivity:
NOTE: Before following the steps in this article, check if your wireless computers have stable connection when connected to other wireless networks (hotspots).
This article assumes that all wireless computers are experiencing intermittent wireless connection with the Linksys router.
Frequent wireless disconnection can be caused by different factors such as:
  1. Wireless interference within the network.
  2. Wireless settings of the Linksys router are still set to default.
  3. Firmware is corrupted.
Reducing Wireless Interference
If you are experiencing frequent disconnection from the wireless network, it helps if you check the following factors, all of which can greatly affect your wireless signals:
your cordless telephone system (or even your neighbors’), or other nearby equipment. Try to change your router’s channel to 1 or 11 (the default channel is 6) and restart the wireless computers.
Physical obstructions: Your router or wireless computers may be losing connectivity because of physical obstacles such as walls and floors. Try to move the equipment to different locations to find a better link.

  • Placement of the router: Linksys suggests that you place your router as high off the ground as possible. When placing the router in a high location, leave a distance of two feet between the router antenna tips, ceiling, and wall. If your signal passes through multiple floors, place the router on the upper-most floor, and high up in the room.
  • Surroundings: Keep the router away from large metal objects, bodies of water (fish tanks, bathrooms), and any electrical equipment including television sets, microwaves, radios, etc.
Customizing Wireless Settings of the Router
Having default wireless settings on the Linksys router may cause conflict with other Linksys routers within your network range. Linksys suggests changing the SSID (network name) and the Wireless Channel of your router. Also, if it is possible, enable the Wireless Security of your router.
To change the router’s SSID or the wireless network’s name, click here.
To change the router’s channel, click here.
To enable the wireless security on the router, click here.
NOTE: If the wireless connection remains unstable after performing the steps above, upgrade the router’s firmware. For instructions, click here
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
