Question about Acer Aspire 3610 Notebook

2 Answers

Volume I have had trouble with my volume before. Took it to a repairman and he said the external volume control on my notebook had been turned off, therefore none of the volume controls were working probably. Where is this external volume control? Thank you. rubyfudge@hargray.com

The external volume control on a laptop consists of hitting the function key and the volume up or down at the same time, usually it will have an icon of a speaker on the key, try function page up or page down. Function/Mute will turn off all sound, which will be a speaker icon with an 'X' through it. Go to Control Panel/Sound and Audio and make sure 'Mute' is not checked, then hit the Audio tab and check 'Use only Default Devices'. If this is not a Media center PC it does not have an external volume control. Hit function and Mute to turn all sound back on. If your machine has all the right audio drivers installed it will come right back on, if not go to Windows update and find the drivers you need under custom/hardware.

You might want to look into one of two options... either an external sound card, or a keyboard that has mltimedia buttons on it.

If you go with the former, the Audigy 2 NX external sound card might be want you are looking for. It's small and has volume controls right on the top. Granted, it is overkill if you just want simple volume control. However, if you don't have a high-end sound card already, it could be a nice addition to your desk..?

How to fix sound problems

Sometimes your volume is fine, it's the website or video that has the volume turned off. For instance, if you scroll your pointer over the video, it will show you their volume control and it may be muted. If this isn't the case, your speaker is gone and you need to take it to a PC repair shop.

Audio will play on internal speakers only

Are you plugging the external speakers into the right port? Try plugging them into the Headphone port if there is no external speaker port. Make sure you have the external speakers turned on and the volume turned up. Also make sure you have the software in the computer to have the volume turned up and not muted. Check the audio sound properties and make sure the volume is turned up and not on mute.

Click Start/Control Panel then look for Audio or Sound and check the volume.

You can also click the megaphone at the bottom right near the time to adjust the volume and check for mute.

I don't have any sound

If you actually hear sound from your laptop when playing other audio files like MP3s or audio CDs, the first thing you check if the Volume Control of the media player that you are using to watch the soaps. If these are streaming videos, look at the speaker/volume level and make sure it is set to high. Make sure as well the volume icon usually located at the bottom portion of the video playback is not turned off or muted.

If no audio at all from your computer, plug in external speakers or try headphones to see if you will get sound. If you do, most likely, your internal speakers have to be replaced. If no audio even on external speakers or headphones, check your general volume controls, set them to high and make sure none are muted, and verify that you have the correct audio controller selected for playbak.

If that still fails, reinstall your audio driver and if no improvement, most likely, you need the audio controller/motherboard replaced.

Buttkicker Gamer 2 Amplifier won't turn on, light stays orange when it should be green. used to be a struggle sometimes to get it to turn green by using the remote, now it just stays orange all the...

Your Gamer 2 Amp turns on whenever an audio signal is present on the input. The amp can have trouble tuning on if the output of the source (computer sound card, etc.) has been turned down. This can happen easily if you use amplified speakers - if you turn the sound card's volume control down - and then increase the volume at the amplified speaker - the resulting sound is the same; even though the signal has been lowered. The problem is that the output from the sound card isn't sufficient to turn on the Gamer 2 Amp.

Try turning down the external speaker volume, then bump up the sound card volume. You'll probably need to adjust the other inputs individually (Wave, Mic, CD, etc) so that none is too loud or soft. Once the input values have been set, gradually increase the output of the sound card in the control panel application etc. while decreasing the volume on the amplified speaker to maintain a comfortable level. Eventually, you'll find the correct volume level on the sound card output that will wake up the Gamer 2 Amp.

If you're still having trouble, review the manual, here. I hope this helps & good luck!

Sound can not come out

On Toshiba laptops there is an external volume control located around the edges of the laptop, they are usually located on the front or the side. Make sure the control is turned up.

Play a song on the laptop and then turn the volume wheel either way to see if that will increase the volume.

Cannot seem to calibrate.

Go to Control Panel, open device manager, and and check for any yellow checks for your
sound, video and game controllers. If there are none, your system is go. Then go to your audio manager on control panel, and set it up for whatever speaker configuration you have. I have realtec audio manager. This step is a must for configuring—you choose whether your laptop will use its own speaks or use your external speakers—you have to turn off the internal speakers and turn on the external manually. You can adjust volume there..
