Question about Vizio P2 42 in. HD-Ready Plasma Television

1 Answer

HDMI Cable? I'm trying to connect my DishNetwork DVR receiver to my Vizio 1080i television. The television has a slot for the HDMI cable, which is fine, but the DVR receiver has a USB port (along with the standard coax ports). I haven't been able to find any HDMI cables with a usb male end. Do they exist or should I be looking for another solution?

Hi CrysR,

Although you may not be able to locate a cable with one HDMI male end and one USB male end, it is possible you may find a solution with an adapter.

I recommend looking for an adapter that will accept USB input and output to either HDMI or DVI. If you only locate DVI, you can then add a DVI to HDMI adapter at the end.

Be aware with these extra pieces and signal transfers included, it may degrade the quality of your picture.

Thank you,

Hi I have acer laptop, I have a cable one end is hdmi and the other side rgb, is there a down load driver so it will work. thank you

If you're trying to display output from the laptop to the Vizio you'd be better off using an HDMI to HDMI cable. The VGA port on the Vizio E320 only supports 640x480 resolution; you have to set your display output accordingly, usually in control panel. Using HDMI you're able to keep the signal HD, @720p. The E320 also supports 1080i, but you're not going to see all 1080 lines. If for some reason you're trying to go from the Vizio to the laptop it just doesn't work that way.

Hello, there are a few things that could be causing this. Usually when this is happening, we have you unplug the receiver from the outlet for about 10 seconds, so if you have not done that yet, go ahead and do so. The receiver will sometimes do that, and it just needs to be rebooted. Cabling can sometimes be an issue as well. The quality of the cable can be an issue, or if the cable is a little loose, that can cause it as well. So I would try another cable, it doesn't have to be HDMI at the moment, just to see if it happens with the new cable as well. You can email me at becki.barned@dishnetwork.com if you have any other troubles.

If you have the DVR connected to the TV with the Coaxial and the HDMI that is probably causing the problem I work for a Cable company and have dealt with this problem on numerous occasions. Try just disconnecting the Coaxial cable from the cable box that should fix this issue.

Cannot adjust picture size on vizio

If the picture size isn't changing with the television's picture size adjustment setting there could be a few things going on. Check to see that you're in the right input on the television i.e. if you are connected to a high definition receiver make sure you are not in the tv/tuner input (tv display would say analog channel 3 or 4). Make sure your tv is switched to the high definition input i.e. component 1 hdmi 1 and etc. If you are in the high definition input already check and see that your cable box or satellite tv receiver is set to the proper resolution. For example if you have a 720p television make sure the cable box is set to 720p not 1080i. Last but not least look for the hd zoom # button on the cable remote. The button may also say format or aspect.

My tv only shows 720p and i am not sure how to adjust it to 1080p ={

You have to adjust the settings on whatever is connected to your television. If you have a bluray player connected to your television with an hdmi cable you should be able to receive 1080p but you have to set the bluray player to 1080i. The tv picks up the signal automatically. From your cable box or satellite tv box you cannot get any more than 1080i from television programs at this time. You can get 1080p from bluray on demand. In certain circumstances you can get 1080p over component cables as well as an hdmi cable but in most cases you will only get 1080i. Once again you have to set your connected device to 1080 to get it on your tv

When I connect HDMI from a Time Warner DVR to my Vizio thru a DVI/HDMI adapter, I get no sound. I can only get sound if I use Component input (RGB+ audio R&L). Is this a DVR issue or a Vizio issue?

Use the Time Warner remote and hit the settings button twice. Scroll down to "audio: digital out" and select HDMI. That solved it for me.

The only issue I have now is that I also have component sound outputs going from the cable box to a receiver. When I turn off the TV while the HDMI cable is hooked up to both the box and the tv the sound goes out to the receiver...
