My Royal PX110MX paper and cd shredder will not automatically shut off. I have thoroughly cleaned
the cutting blades and even removed the protective housing around the
blades to expose the circuitry, wiring and switch. Sometimes it will
start up immediately upon turning it on, sometimes not. It started by
itself in the middle of the night when I accidentally left it in the
standby mode. It never shuts off after shredding paper whether it is
one piece or 20 pieces unless I tap the reverse button while it
running. Sometimes there is a second click when turn the unit on and
that is a sure indication that the unit will run continuously.

My Royal 1200mx shredder is erratic. I cleaned the sensor with alcohol and that didn't seem to work. When it does run, it goes backward for a few seconds then stops. Then on it's own, it will start up without me touching it.... seems to be haunted. It is not jammed and has not been abused!

My Ativa DQ83 shreds great, except the auto feed will not shut off. There is no blockage. This problem has escalated over time. The auto feed would take a bit longer to shut off each use until it would not shut off at all. I have to manually turn off the feed. I have maintaned the machine even using the Office Depot sherreder oil. The machine has have very light use.

    Executive Machines EPS-1501X
Shredder runs constantly after shredding. I thought it must be a sensor. However. If I press reverse, it will "grind" for a couple of seconds and then shut off.

I have tried cleaning the area where the sensor is located but no success yet. System is out of warranty. Any ideas for a fix, or just keep on turning it off with the reverse switch?
    Thanks in advance.

Dlcrrawford, You have a sensors problem replaced both.
good luck

Kacretail: You have a bad sensor. your sensors are going bland
replaced both.
good luck

Mhs65 your eye sensor is bad. cleaning will not always help
better to replaced,

Azamoral0729: you may have two problems: Your system board or your paper sensors. I will first replace the paper sensor.
the sensor is giving false reading to the main board This is why your machine keeps coming on or will not stop when you shred.

good luck

I took a Q-tips, some hydro peroxide and cleaned the sensors. After it dried out, it all started to work normally again.

I have read the instructions on how to remove a jam in my shredder and have repeated these steps over and over. It still says "Anti jam". What do I do?

You will have to get access to the shredding mechanism. If your shredder has a removable bin, remove it and turn the shredder upside down. With power disconnected, remove all bits and pieces of paper you can find. I have used tweezers, a utility knife and other tools to complete this tedious process, especially where coated stock or plastic has been shredded. When finished, and exhausted, turn the shredder upright and insert the bin to close the interlock. Connect power and check operation.

My shredder won't shred

If the motor will not run, then probably there's paper clogged in the shredder. Turn over the shredder, after unplugging the power cord, and remove the papers.

If the motor will run but not shredding any paper, then the drive gear has broken teeth. This is not usually worth fixing.
Hope this helps.

My Staples 16 sheet Microcut shredder starts the shredding operation after I push the button and continues the shredding operation after I shred a paper. How can I get the shredding mechanism to stop...

It's a tedious process to clean it out. Most auto switch shredders use either a tiny little lever or an optical sensor in the paper feed slot. Usually removing the shred head, picking all the paper out and blasting all the dust out with air will clean it up. Then run a few sheets of paper with shredder lubricant (basically clean mineral oil) to oil the blades and it should be good to go again. Just be careful cleaning that cutting head. I've donated many drops of blood to office equipment over the years.

Why does my paper shredder make a clicking sound when I try to shred a piece of paper?

Try putting a piece of paper in enough to start it running, but not so far as to go into the shredder. See if it will run for a minute or two. Sounds as though it may be over heating.

Beeps and stops; doesn't stop when empty

As for your first part - It sounds like there is something wrong with the switch lever that moves to complete the electrical circuit to start the shredder. On every shredder I have seen, there is a little "bellows" linked up to this lever that pushes it back so the machine will shut off. Most of the time all you have to do is put another piece of paper in and let that get shredded and the shredder will stop afterwards. If not, then just use the main switch to turn the shredder off.
Second, the beeping during "mid-shred" sounds like a warning that the shredder is starting to overheat and shut down. If this is the case, just wait a few minutes to allow it to cool down and try to finish the shredding you have. I have found that if you feed a shredder a constant stream of paper to shred, this might cause the shredder to overheat.
Also, the shredder may get overloaded with pieces of the shredded paper. Here is the way to check on that:
1. UNPLUG THE ELECTRICAL CORD FROM WHEREVER YOU HAVE IT PLUGGED IN.
2. Lift the shredder from the bin and turn it upside down.
3. Look for an excessive amount of paper in the bottom of the shredder. If there is a lot, you can remove it in several ways. (Most likely the bin is quite full at this point.) Pull the majority of it out and put it in the bin. If there are pieces of paper that you can pull out with your fingers, use a tool (needle-nose pliers, serrated tweezers, a hemostat, etc.) to get those difficult pieces out.

Replace the unit on the bin making sure that it is the same way you took it off. In most cases (on the better shredders), there is a notch on the underside of the shredder that needs to be on top of a "nub" that is on the edge of the inside top of the bin. Unless that nub is aligned with the slot, the shredder will not work.

My royal shredder js1100 will only shred in reverse.

Simple to solve!
Get some longnose pliers or strong tweezers.
Unplug the beast. You do not want to shred your finger nails, or your fingers.
Flip the mechanical part upside down. You will find small pieces of papers near the rollers. Pull them out with tweezers or pliers.
Keep hands out of harm\'s way, plug shredder and make it run in reverse for 1/10 of a second.
Unplug and remove more paper impacted in between rollers.
Repeat last two steps until no paper is seen by the rollers.
Plug and continue shredding your papers

Piece of advice. Do not shred your credit cards in shredder. Scissors are cheaper and do not mess your shredder!

Paper has wrapped around the cutting blades and is packed in tight. How do I clean this?

    • 1 Unplug the paper shredder. Empty the shreds from the collection bin. Pull as much stuck material as possible from the top and bottom of the shredder blades with pliers.
    • 2 Place the paper shredder back on the collection bin base and plug the shredder back in. Rock the shredding direction back and forth between forward and reverse. Pull on the jammed pieces as the shredder shifts between directions.
    • 3 Run the shredder in reverse continuously once the paper jam is cleared. Make two passes across the cutting blades while drizzling synthetic shredder oil. Switch the direction to forward to run continuously for one minute.
    • 4 Lower two sheets of clean paper into the shredder. The paper removes excess oil, metal fragments and debris from the cutting blades. Blast the blades with compressed air when you notice a build-up of small paper scraps that may cause a jam.

My shredder won't continuously shred a piece of paper. I have to reverse it then turn it on again multiple times to shred just one piece of paper. Can I fix this?

If it is a x-cut shredder try oiling ( with a lightweight shredder oil ) onto a sheet of paper then shredding the sheet of paper to get the oil down into the cutting teeth....also try cleaning the "eyes" which are in the middle were you insert the paper..( they may be dirty.)

Shrededer motor remains on after shredding is complete

Blow out the sensors with some compressed air.(Computer Duster) they are likely covered in paper dust and the machine believes paper is present.
Please be sure to unplug the machine before attempting any sort of repairs
Hope this is of some help
