Liftmaster security + model 1265 NOT CLOSING PROPERLY

Door does not close properly. It will stop about 2 -3 feet from floor and reverse. It will do this in 2 to 3 places before it gets to the ground. Sometimes it will do it in the up cycle but mostly in down. Please advise as it is growing quite annoying. THANK YOU AL.

Today my garage door is doing this same thing. It goes up with no problem, but when I try to shut the door, it stops a couple feet from the ground and goes right back up to the full open position. Help! Any suggestions?

Same thing happened to my garage door. Take some WD40 and put on tracks. Worked like a gem and it took a 91 year old lady to tell me to do that!!

Wbuero, I had same problem two weeks. The door springs weaken over time and may need to be tightened - check opening force manually. Manufacturer also recommended reviewing install guide to be sure opener arm is attached at proper angle. The opener on my professionally installed door was not connected properly. It that doesn't work, the opener drive train or door track/wheels may need maintenence.

How do i fix my garage opener? It attempts to close but reverses itself and does not close completely

It is not closing completely because either something is in the way of the door closing properly or the mechanism controlling the safety feature is malfunctioning.

Why is my garage door suddenly reversing when going down?

Deb, that reversal is a child safety device - if the bottom edge of the door detects contact with any object, it'll immediately reverse so it doesn't kill a child. Or a cat, dog, whatever.

The opener mechanism should have a stop switch that prevents the door from closing hard against the floor - that stop switch needs to be adjusted so that the door will stop JUST before hard contact. That'll take care of it "bouncing" off the floor & reversing. As to it reversing before it touches the floor... examine both guide rails closely to see if there's any obstruction that the door's bottom edge may be contacting to trigger the child protection reversal switch.

It sounds like a door spring problem. Here is a website with a video of adjusting a door with extension springs.

The garage door closes and then opens up again, I have to close it several times before it secures. There are no obstructions. Is this a sensitivity problem?

More than one thing can cause this type problem.

If the main light flashes 10 times when the door reverses it is a door sensor problem. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is not flickering ever so slightly.

If the door reverses when it hits the floor it is a sign that the door is traveling a bit to far. The adjustment for this is on the side of the motor unit. Turn the 'down limit' in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Some tweaking will probably be necessary.

Reversing sensor blinking

Tweak the sensors to see if you can stop the blinking. They must be pointed at one another and not blinking for them to work properly.

Chamberlain 1265 garage door opener, tried to

On the side of the motor unit you will find the 'down limit control'. Using a small screwdriver turn this control in the same direction as the arrow printed on the cover. Some tweaking may be necessary to get it just right.

Door opens after closing

If the main light flashes 10 times when the door reverses it is a door sensor problem but if the door is hitting the floor and reversing and the main light is not flashing then the door is closing too far and the safety thinks it has hit something. On the side of the motor unit you will find 2 controls. One of these is the 'down limit'. Turn this in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover until the door closes but does not reverse.
