Nikon Coolpix 4600 Lens Cover Stuck Open (by 2 users)

posted by carlk546 on Jul 05, 2008

We have a 4600 that was dropped into beach sand. The lower half of the lens cover works fine, but the top half is stuck open. Can this part of the camera be successfully disassembled, cleaned and reassembled? I assume there is sand stuck somewhere strategic and can be remove with proper access. Perhaps not. I have had similar Nikon cameras open to replace LCD screen. Not sure if this is a repair worth attempting given the fact that camera works as is and may not after I have completed the "repair". Thanks for your help.
I have the same problem.
