This maybe because your memory is not contiguous.
i e you may have more than enough memory but you may not have it in a contiguous form.
This can be practically solved by properly partitioning the memory.

The only thing I can see from your machine specs is that you only have 256 MB of RAM. This is quite low for running the system and also programs.

Will not run on Windows XP (not valid 32 bit application message)

Here's what the website says:
PC with 486 processor, 8 MB RAM, CD-ROM drive, VGA graphics, and 5 MB free hard drive space. Runs with Windows® 95, and Windows® NT 3.51 and 4.0. (MapSelect will run with Windows® 3.1)

It doesn't mention XP!

You have a couple of choices. You can upgrade to version 4. It runs under Vista (and may be Win 7 compatible - worst case run with the compatibility mode enabled when you install (right click on the installer and see properties (Compatibility Tab, Run as Vista), then right click and run as administrator) Then repeat the compatibility command for the actual program).

Try the current program in the Compatibility mode (this is iffy for an XP and older code). Alternatively install a virtual computer with XP on the computer. Win7 Pro and Ultimate allow you to run XP mode for a free XP virtual computer. All other virtual computer programs require a paid license for XP to work. Then install and run the program in the virtual computer.

I hope this helps.

My kingston memory stick runs pic programs and songs but will not play movies thanks in advance Tony

It depends on the size of your memory stick. Movie files can be up to 4 gigs or more.,. Most downloaded movies are about 700 MB. You probably need a larger memory stick.

Click on the Advanced tab,
then select the Settings button within the Performance section.
In the Performance Options window, click on the Advanced tab, and then select the Change button in the Virtual Memory section.
Click the Custom size button...
Change the Initial size (MB) setting to 4000
Change the Maximum size (MB) setting to 4000

Program not running

I just solved it! Thanks to the help of the previous post. The link was no longer good. But here is the new working link:
http://support.selectsoft.com/customer70/ViewCase.asp?Casenum=33&ReturnPage=FAQ

If this link does not work for you, then simply go to:http://support.selectsoft.com and click on the tab for PC/MAC support. It's listed as one of the top ten FAQ's.

OR

Search the term "DK" in their Search Help Database (without bothering to tell them what type of computer you have, OS, software, etc). It should come up right away. This is a fix for Windows XP. Should work for Windows 7 too, if you're running virtual xp (though I haven't tested that yet.) Not sure about vista.

Sidenote: This is a good place to get info on the 3MB virtual memory fix too, which some older programs require. The short version is this...just set your virtual memory (Start/controlpanel/System/Advanced/Performance - Settings/Advanced/Change) to 4000.

How to increase Virtual Memory?

In Windows XP
1.Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2.Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
3.On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
4.On the Advanced tab, under Virtual memory, click Change.
5.Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file that you want to change.
6.Under Paging file size for selected drive, click to Custom size check box. You can enter the amount of memory you would like to reserve for Virtual memory by entering the initial and maximum size.
7.Click Set
When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
Special Note: You should choose the same amount for the initial size and maximum size. This will Stop your CPU from constantly changing the paging file.

HOT TIP: To stop your CPU from constantly changing the paging file, set the initial and maximum size to the same value. For example, 500 and 500. The value should be at least 1.5 times more than your physical RAM. If your computer has 512MB of RAM increase the virtual memory paging file to 1.5*512= 768

In Vista

1. Click Start button Picture of the Start button
2. Click Control Panel
3. Choose System and Maintenance and then click System.
4. In the left pane, click Advanced system settings.
5.On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
6. Click the Advanced tab, and then, under Virtual memory, choose Change.
7. Click Custom to change the Initial size (MB) and Maximum size. See the hot tip above.

Remember to choose the drive you would like to use to increase the virtual memory. In most cases it usually your C: Drive. You can set the initial size and maximum size after clicking the Custom size check box.Remember its better to keep the Virtual memory values the same.

Also having enough available space is absolutely necessary for your virtual memory and RAM to function properly.

Problem running program

This is a common problem in older software. The reason is it was written expecting a small MAXIMUM virtual memory size. When your VM is SO MUCH greater, the number wraps (internally) to a negative value. Thus it thinks you do not have enough. Additionally, Midisaurus is not certified to run on XP. See this entry in the FAQ for Midisaurus and MidiShare: http://www.town4kids.com/us_ecom/support/midi_q&a.htm#a16
