Question about IBM ThinkPad T23 Notebook

1 Answer

IBM Thinkpad 23

I just bought this IBM on Ebay. I can't get the DVD rom to boot properly.

I put in a disk, it lights up give a quick screen shot of Win 98 (boot up diskette used) and then goes back to the blank screen.

I have an extra hardrive that I want to put in it. I am installling XP on it with a Dell CPX that I have and will put the working hard drive in it to see if it works.

I downloaded all the driver downloads fromt he IBM site and will load them itno the C directory.

Is the DVD rom bad or is it a software problem?

Thanks

First you can't load XP onto a hard drive using a Dell and expect it to work in the IBM. They are two totally different system configurations. If the IBM won't boot or read from the CD (after choosing CD/DVD drive from the boot menu) then the drive is bad and will need to be replaced.

Do you mean it won't pick the disc? If so, try F10 it should also give you a boot menu if you don't see press any key to boot from cd... The other option is boot into BIOS and change your boot order. CD-ROM/DVD should be the 1st option.8_28_2012_7_14_07_am.jpg

I have a IBM thinkpad R50e for the last 6 years. It is not reading any CD or DVD, but says the device is working properly. Pl. help me.

I think it has failed.
Go to Control Panel...System... Device Manager... and locate CD or DVD Roms and UNINSTALL it. Then Reboot and it will automatically locate the CD / DVD Rom. You will have to acknowledge several screens wit naext and tes ect.

If it does not work, it's really easy to buy and replace.

Lenovo/IBM ThinkPad T23 2648-DVD ROM not working. Bought on eBay. Either no driver or no software? DVD ROM . Can it be fixed, &/or can I raise a dispute with eBay/PayPal? Lenovo does not have support...

Try ejecting it and putting it into the other multibay to see if it works. What sort of symptoms is it exhibiting? It is probably dead as this is an old system and parts wear out over time, especially dvd-rom drives. These are pretty cheap and can be replaced easily. Make sure you save the dvd rom frame and ide connector from the drive as you will need this to apply to another drive.

I would return the drive if you bought it on ebay for a functioning one. Most reputable sellers will test items before shipment and refuse shipment if it fails testing. Other fail safes are having a period of time to test the item and return it if defective.

You need winxp bootable disk for format or repair your winxp.
Then boot your computer with that disk.
For that when you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or "del" key to enter in bios .
Then set first boot device in bot option as your cd or dvd rom. Then save settings .
Then put your disk in rom then it boot with it.

IBM Thinkpad A22m 2628 Power On Problem`

That system is now old enough to suffer a harddrive failure.

If you have an emergency boot disk for floppy or optic drive, plug it in and see if the system then at least finishes something - heck, anything!

I hope she has been religious about backing up important stuff 'cause otherwise she may never see it again.

Error 19990301 on a Thinkpad 600 usually indicates that the hard drive is not properly connected, and error code 19990305 signifies "no bootable device". So, it's the hard drive.

First of all, I would try removing and replacing the drive to see if that cures it. You can get the service manual from Lenovo at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=LWIK-3SYPX2

If this doesn't fix it, the hard drive is faulty. However, small size hard drives (10 or 20Gb) which suit these older machines are very cheap on eBay.

DVD

Hi,
I don't mean to disagree with my associate, but DVD players for R series (or T, A, etc) can be found for less than 20.00 US (Ebay is a good example)
For that matter, we've got at least a dozen at our shop which we sell for 25.00
Installation is very simple as well, just pop the old drive out, put the new drive in.
Good luck
