Question about GE Profile JS998 Kitchen Range

GE JS998SOH1SS No Display on panel. Touch panel doesn't work. No oven light.

2nd post here. No voltage at main control board (logic board). Went upstream and checked for 12v dc at MPB J1. Zero volts, should be 12 volts. There is current on the MPB because the heatsinks are ungrounded and they're "hot" at 100v ac. No 5 volts dc from the MPB to the logic board either. So basically I believe it's the power board and not any of the 4 boards that are on the panel for the display. If any of this logic doesn't make sense, please enlighten me before the parts dept "enlightens" my wallet of around 250 bucks.

Same model JS998SOH1SS . Suddently display stop working, but top does. Why GE Appliences always stop working? Probably they outsource too much. Any thoughts, help.

I went with what was logical and finite - voltage readings were off. All the voltages stemmed from the main power supply board, so it had to be the problem. I ordered a new one online (around $150). Lots of connectors to it, but removed existing board and installed the new one. Presto! That fixed the problem!! Put everything back together and been fine now for several months. If you need some help, write back and I'll walk you through it.

I have identical problem with GE JS998SOH1SS kitchen range. The oven and oven light stoped working; the control panel (touch and display) is dead; the top heaters are ok.

Could you please identify the board which you replaced (part number, cost) ?

You obviously have service manual with wiring diagram, voltages, etc. Where did you get it?

Did you figure out which part of the board was deffective (power supply) ?

Is there any additional information/experience you could share ?

Thnks for your help and information

It is the power board - part number WB27T10551 located under the glass cook top on the right hand side. The part that fails is transistor TOP247Y located on the big aluminum heat sink. Mine was cracked in half. Lots of screws to take out - take your time it's tough to work on as you cannot lift the top off without disconnecting a million wires - just prop it up with a board and you'll be fine.

I have exactly the same problem with the same model (J S998 SOH1SS). Top is working and display went blank overnight. It will be costly and a few times I must stay home.
GE has sales and repair in US - but work is done offshore.
Never will buy from GE again – let them find buyers oversee.

You will probably have to replace the main control board- the cooktop operates independently of the ovens, so your symptom is not uncommon... GE Range Stove Oven Oven Control Board WB27T10416

I own FRIGIDAIRE ES100/105 (electric stove and oven). Yesterday I was using the oven and suddenly I heard a loud sound. I went to check it I found out the both the oven and stove were off. And not working....

HI. The actual issue will be with the main logic board, which is where the main element control relays are mounted. These very important relays are damaged. The main board will need to be replaced, asap.

With that said, if you could be so kind; Please post the entire model number so that i may pull up all necessary part numbers needed, as well as, service manual links and diagrams to help with your repair.

I have a Maytag Touch Control 500 electric smoothtop, about 4 yrs old. The entire display panel is dark, but the burners oven light work. The oven does not work.

Hi. Been there. You will have to take it apart so you can see the panel. it should have a fuse on it. It could be bad. Or mo voltage going to it. Or hold on........The board is bad

Oven does not work

Open the control panel to expose the clock/oven control.
With a volt meter verify incoming voltage to the clock control.
Check all wires for good contact.
If it still does not work replace the clock.

Remember to unplug the range to check the wires for good contact.

Lost power, now oven won't work and display shows "FFF"

I didn't catch the first line in my first response "Lost power, now oven won't work and display shows..." I am 99.999% sure when the power company restored your power they hit you with a surge that wiped out the low voltage transformer on your ERC (main oven control board). Call your power company and report it. I doubt they will cover the cost to repair but they should! Can't hurt to ask and have them file a claim

Lighting the oven

Control Lockout (on some models)
Your control will allow you to lock out the
touch pads so they cannot be activated when
touched or cleaning the glass panel.
To lock the controls:
Touch the 9 and 0 touch pads at the
same time for 3 seconds until the
control beeps twice. The display will
show LOC continuously and the time
of day if not blacked out.
NOTE: All cooking and timing functions will be
cancelled when locking out the control.
To unlock the control, touch the
9 and 0 touch pads at the same time
for 3 seconds until the control beeps
twice, and LOC will be removed from
the display.
NOTE: Some models have a Control Lockout
pad. Touch and hold it for 3 seconds to
lock/unlock.
Gas/Control Lockout (on some models)
Your control will allow you to lock out the
surface burners, oven burners and control
panel so they cannot be activated.
To lock/unlock the controls:
Turn all surface burners off.
Touch and hold the Gas/Control
Lockout pad for 3 seconds until the
display shows LOC ON.
To unlock the control, touch and hold the
Gas/Control Lockout pad for 3 seconds
until the display shows LOC OFF.
When this feature is on and the touch pads
are touched, the control will beep and the
display will show LOC ON.
The control lockout mode affects all
controls. No controls will work when this
feature is activated.
The adjustment will be retained in memory
after a power failure.

Display no longer works

Yes, I see this but it isn't real common.  The control board (eoc) will have to be replaced.  Most of them are costly.  If you give me the complete model # from the sticker on the oven (may be behind bottom drawer) I can check into this better for you and get you a price.

Oven Control Out - Blown Fuse?

If this is a total gas range then it wouldn't hook up to 240. Check to see if top burners are working. The oven control board only controls the bake/broil. If the bake/broil is the only thing not working and all connections to the board are tight then replace the board.
