My Toshiba Satellite A30 laptop keeps switching off when charging. It works fine when on the battery but seems to overheat when I use it whilst charging the battery. Can you help ?

I would suggest that you try it with another AC adapter first, because it seems the adapter is faulty and therefore supplying more current into the laptop than necessary.
If it works perfectly with another AC Adapter, then you might just have to change your AC Adapter.
Hope it helps.
Goodluck!

Don't know where problem exists in Toshiba A30.

These laptops had a lot of serious problems. Some of them were incredibly sensitive to static, and others did overheat, rendering the motherboard or CPU useless. I think there was even some kind of legal action against Toshiba on these models at one point, but I could be wrong.

You may not like this advice, but your $90 is probably better spent going towards a slightly used, refurbished or even new laptop that will outperform this computer anyway. You may only have to spend a couple of hundred dollars.

It sounds like you might know your way around the innards, so your hard drive can be removed and put in a USB hard drive enclosure so you can get to your old data from a new computer. These enclosures are very cheap.

I would not suggest continuing to try to resurrect this computer, as it will give you nothing but headaches going forward and will most likely never be reliable. You can remove your hard drive and sell the rest on eBay (or elsewhere) for parts.

Sorry if that's not great news, but that's my professional opinion of what you should do at this point.

Toshiba A30 LAPTOP

No lights is not good. Power supply issue fo sure. Check th epower supply cable to your laptop. Are you running it on battery, or from a wall socket. Are you using it via a safety surge board, make sure the se are all funtioning too. If still nothing, you may have to take it to a repair shop as power suply may be damaged. Also if system has 110v/220v switch on back make sure it is set to 110v, and try again. Good luck lilacgerry xxx
