SOURCE: rubber grips get sticky after a time instorage. How

I had the same issue - I used a citrus cleaner, and then just water with a sponge - but be SURE you don't do two things 1) get ANY water on or near the camera's openings, and 2) don't rub too hard, as the rubber is just a coating to hard plastic below - I know this first hand, as I went too far on the top handle, thinking I was getting dirt off, when it was actually the black of the rubber!

I think the grips just do this over time... but the rest of the places where they never met human hands are just like new... so I think it's the oil in our skin that sits on that rubber for a while, and then makes it like that? - has to be related, since it's only tacky at both grips.

Buying an SLR digital camera

Hard to tell, but I'd give a slight advantage to the Canon 1000D over the Nikon D60 (closest competitor) for 2 main reasons. The Canon has liveview which the D60 lacks and the Canon is largely backwards compatible with older Canon and third party lenses - so you can get good quality older lenses which will work perfectly with the 1000D. With Nikon on the other hand you need to either buy lenses with internal autofocus motors or you'll be stuck with only manual focus.

Besides that there's not really much difference, since both cameras produce great images and are very similar in features handling and price etc. To sum it all up - I suggest you go with the Canon.

Hope that helps with your decision.

My ES6000 camcorder has a sticky surface - How can it stop?

Try wiping it with a cloth dampened either with Windex or a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water.

I got some coca-cola under the slide door, Now it is sticky and i have trouble opening it. Does anybody know how to take off this cover so i can clean under neath it?

There will be few screws hiding under the small rubber pads remove the rubber pads and you will notice the tiny screws... unscrew it and you will have your cover in the hand.... be careful about all small spring attached to it

"LENS" word shows in lcd. non focusing

I dropped my Camera and the word Lens came up in screen. I unscrewed the lens and found that it came right off and screwed it in to the camera again tightly in the grooves it fits in to and it worked perfectly again.

Yes, it's sufficient to operate the camera provided you have the proper grip for your model.

Won't turn on in Picture Mode

I have the same problem - 4 fast beeps and it turns off. My guess is that the lubricants are getting old and sticky - I had a Canon SLR that developed the same problem after being in the extreme cold. Here's a couple of things to try:
  • You can still access the picture review features by holding down the review button while you turn it on (note that if you hold down the trash button you'll see the firmware version.)
  • What doesn't work: Resetting the camera from the setting menu; replacing the battery, replacing the SD card, cursing.
  • I've been able to consistently get it to function normally by hitting the camera into the palm of my hand on the left side (with the viewing screen facing you), just after turning on the camera.  If this doesn't work, keep hitting harder until it works.  Once on the camera works normally.
