Question about Black & Decker 19" Electric Lawnhog Mulching Mower with Rear Bag

1 Answer

My mower will run if I hold the primer bulb in but if I let go it will stop. I cleaned the carburetor and replaced the primer bulb. My Craftsman mower engine serial number is 143964008.

My Craftsman mower will only run if I pump the primer bulbbut if I let go it will sputter and stop. I cleaned the carburetor and added carburetor cleaner to the fuel. It still does the same thing.

Lawnmower carburetor problem.

Remove carb float bowl. Check float operation. Float down gas flow, float up no gas flow. Clean float bowl. Observe bowl screw, see if there is a hole or holes thru the screw. Clean out with thin wire, bread wrapper works peeled back about an inch. Use wire to clean out center port of carb. Remove mounting pin of float, remove float and meter needle, clean out port up thru carb with wire. Reassemble try to start. Prime at least 3 times, ensure primer bulb is not cracked, replace if cracked. Replace air filter if dirty. Replace spark plug once a year. Fill oil. 30w. Mowers now have a low oil cutoff.

New primer bulb but engine won't prime

remove and clean the carby. clean out the main jet. ensure that there is nothing stopping the primer circuit from working. There are two valves under the primer bulb and a spring. when you push in the bulb fuel is squirted into the manifold When you take your finger off the bulb the spring pushes it out and new fuel is drawn past a valve to fill under the bulb. Pushing in again closes that valve and opens a second valve which allows the fuel into the manifold again

how long has it been since it was running good? Todays gas goes bad very fast.
It may not be the Nephews mechanicals skills that is the problem.

I have a craftsman eager-1 4.5 hp mowerthat won't stay running. If I hold the primer bulb in, it runs. I've adjusted the screw all the in and it still won't keep running. Any ideas?

Do you hold the primer in or pump it? Pumping the primer forces the fuel into the intake bypassing the diaphragm's intended function. Assuming you pump the primer to keep it running your carburetor is dirty and should be cleaned. Ensure that your fuel is fresh and that your fuel can and fuel tank has no water in it. Ethanol in fuel will evaporate and cause condensation thus creating unwanted water.

Mower wont stay run n unless i hold primer in

If it is a float bowl carburetor may have a jet clogged or the primer bulb could have a hole in it. If it is a diaphragm type carburetor, the diaphragm may be stiff and needs replacing. Check it out.
Good day.

My Toro 20016 will start but will only run for a minute. If I hold the primer button down all the way it will continue to run but will die if I release. I have cleaned the float and there are no leaks in...

You will need to clean out the jet on the bottom of the carburetor. The fuel is not being sucked in to engine. Check the needle and seat to make sure fuel is flowing in to the carburetor.

Craftsman eager-1 3.75 mower will not stay running

the engine is not getting enough gas. when you hold down the primer you are bypassing this problem. to fix this simply adjust the carb's fuel screw, located on the side of carb, a little at a time until runs smoothly.

Lawn mower will not start and run

Sounds like a clogged carb or a cracked primer bulb. I would install a carb rebuild kit and new primer bulb if your mower uses one.
