Question about Baby Lock Esante

1 Answer

Thread cutter My Esante ESI-2 sometimes does not cut the thread. I've had this looked at 2 different dealers and they replaced it. Now it's doing it again. Thsi feature is needed when you embroider. One dealer is telling me they no longer make the parts to replace the cutters. Is this true? If the machines are made to last a long time, shouldn't something this simple be available.

I had the same problem with my Ellegeo. It came with an extra bobbin case, the black part the comes out of the race that the bobbin sits in, and I used the new one. Worked like a charm and I haven't had a problem since. Good luck!

Bobbin thread not cutting

With the bobbin case out of the machine, touch the cutter button. Do you see the cutter arm move from left to right and then back left. If not the cutter arm is out of place. If it does it is something else.
I usually check two things:
1 - your cutter blade might be missing or dull and needs to be replaced. I would not recommend doing this yourself unless you are very good.
2 - many times there is lint or loose threads around the cutter in the area to the left of the needle plate that needs to be cleaned out. You can remove the cover to this area by first removing the needle plate and bobbin case. Then the cover is accessible to pop off by sliding the tip of a small screw driver under the cover at the bottom right corner of the cover. There should be a little opening. Carefully pop the cover off but be careful that the blade mechanism does not come off too. With your finger carefully hold the silver metal blade area steady and pick out the loose threads/lint from around the copper looking metal part. There is velcrow on the tip of the copper metal part so be sure that you don't remove that too. That's what holds the thread for the blade to cut it. If velcrow is missing, or the silver metal part is out of place that could be the problem also.
I recommend that any repairs/service be done by an authorized Viking dealer. You can find a local dealer by checking the Viking website at http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us and going to the Locate a Dealer link.
Good luck

I have an Esante ESI-2 sewing machine which has always worked beautifully. But now it has become so stiff that it is difficult to even turn the balance wheel. I have thoroughly cleaned the lint and...

Probably thread wrapped round the upper needlebar area, which has migrated into the bearings of the take up lever and balance. Pretty major surgery required to make the machine whole. Imminently worth it as an esante is a great machine. Take it to your local sewing machine repair person, preferably a Babylock dealer but any competent repair guy should know and recognize this problem. It's a bit like a major overhaul repair on an automabile but should still not cost much more than $100...the machine is worth much more.

That is your thread cutter. Depending on what machine you have, whether it is automatic thread cutter on an arm or just a manual one. If it is automatic, pop the cover off on the left top of machine next to the bobbin area. The arm should be seen there. It moves like an elbow. Push your thread cutter (scissor button) and watch how it works to see if it has come off the post. If you don't have automatic thread cutter, perhaps the thread cutter is not pushed all the way back in its place. The thread cutter looks like a triangular piece of flat razor. It could be sticking out too far or perhaps bent. I have fixed mine before, but be careful.

Top thread keeps breaking on ESe2.

Many things can inter fear with the thread and cause it to break. A common problem is the thread getting wrapped around the top tension rollers on that machine. You can take off the "face cover" (side cover on the left) and look from the side and see if the 2 little rollers have thread wrapped around or underneath them. Start there.

Husqvarna Sapphire - thread cutter not working

Does the metal arm come out to grab the threads to cut it? Is there a blade in the metal arm that cuts the tread? I think a standard utility knife cutter blade is the same size (just like the one that cuts the bobbin thread when you put in a new bobbin). What happens when you activate the cutter is the arm comes out, grabs the threads, brings them to the blade which cuts the threads, the velcro by the cutter holds the bobbin thread in place for the next stitch. Otherwise the thread may end up on top and the top thread would not be able to pick it up for the next stitch.

Good luck.

You might want to try this solution first, although maybe your dealer has already tried it. With your machine off, hold the start/stop button, the reverse button and the needle position button down with one hand. While holding them, turn the machine on. What will come up is a screen to recalibrate your LCD. You won't need the first screen, so press the thread cutting button one time. The next screen changes the brightness level. The reverse button on your machine makes it darker, and the needle position button makes it lighter. I stumbled upon this by accident one day while recalibrating. I'd like to know if this works for you, although by now, maybe you have bought a new screen...
