the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).

If you have done a slow format you have erased all the data on your hard drive , its not recoverable.
But if you have done a quick format you may still be able to recover the data by sending it back to the company. But brace yourself the charges for data recovery might cost you more than the cost of the hard disk itself. Always ask for a quote.

My simpletech 500g hdd wont work and i took it to staples and they couldnt retrieve my files . please help

Does the hard drive get recognized by the computer? Your best bet and probably only bet would be to remove the hard drive inside from the external casing and plug it directly into a computer and see if you can retrieve any thing that way. One good program I know of is file scavenger. But the drive has to be working enough to actually work on a computer. Beyond that you would have to send it to a professional that deals with data recovery. I ALWAYS recommend that any important files be backed up. This means the files are saved in two different spots. So if one is lost or stops working you have the back up to use. Hence the name back up. If you need any further assistance let me know.
Thanks,
Lee

External WD 1TB. I cannot retrieve my files it says Parameter is incorrect when that is gone It shows there are no files on my HD and there are plenty of files all psd files as well

I'm sorry to say that this may be due to a corrupt HDD. WD Hard drives tend to die far too fast (I know too well unfortunately).
If this is under warranty, I would call up WD support service for a free replacement.
If you want to take more invasive steps, I will be happy to help you try and recover your files.

DATA RECOVERY ON FAULTY EMC AX100

There is a chance that you will be able to get back some of your inaccessible data, provided those items were not overwritten (if you continue saving more data to the drive).

First things first: STOP using the hard dive that you want to recover data from in case you may quite possibly ruin your chances of data recovery.

Then Recommend you have a try of Wondershare Data Recovery, a data recovery program with both Windows and Mac versions provided. It should help you. Get the program here,

Data Recovery Windows (for Windows)
Data Recovery Mac (for Apple Mac OS)

Remember - Do NOT try & write anything back to your hard drive until you can recover your data safely!

You maybe able to retrieve data from this hard drive by connecting it to an USB hard drive adapter. Then plug this adapter into a working computer's USB port. If the hard drive is OK then this computer will see the adapter as an external hard drive and you can open the folders and files and copy them to the computer's hard drive or to a USB flash drive.

Kevin, Yes you will loose al data if you format it.DO NOT FORMAT as you have your data on it. What I suggest is to get the motherboard of same old model that you replaced. Sometimes the motherboards do not play up with all the hardware. Get the same model motherboard that you replaced. Once that works, copy all data to some other HDD. Or better still send the data in bits by email to yourself. The data would be safe on the email server. And can be retrieved later when all is well. OR attach the drive to some other computer where it works and send emails to yourself. Long and tedious job, but will save your data. And when the drive has started working with your new computer after formatting or otherwise, you can retrieve all the data. and delete the emails from the server.

Well, data recovery service is pretty expensive. In your case the MOST effective way is to try some so-called data recovery software. See if you can grab some of your precious data back.

First of ALL - Connect your hard drive to your personal computer. And install this software Wondershare Data Recovery on the computer in order to perform data recovery. Get the program from its site.
data recovery (for Windows OS)
Mac data recovery (for Mac OS X)

Good luck. I hope that my reply has shed some light on the problem! Remember - Always make multi-Backups of your precious data!
