Make sure that the ip address that you are getting is a valid one and you are connected to the correct wireless network. for example, if your router's ip address id 192.168.1.1, your computer should have an ip address of 192.168.1.x. if you are getting a valid ip address and you're still getting the dns error, the thing that you can do is set a static ip address and dns to your ps3.
if you don't know the dns to use, go to the command prompt and type ipconfig/all and it'll give you a list that'll contain the dns servers. copy the dns and enter it on the ip settings of your ps3 together with the default gateway (ip address of the router), subnet mask (it's usually 255.255.255.0) and your ip address (make sure that the ip address that you'll set on the ps3 is not being used by any of your computers)

hope this'll help you and just ask me if your still having any problem

ciao!

it could be possible that it's a modem concern but have you tried connecting a computer directly to the modem and check if you'll have internet access. if you do have internet access using a computer, most likely that you need to open some ports in order for the modem to allow access to your ps3. but if your computer is also not able to connect to the internet, it could be possible that the modem is not properly configured to provide internet access.

just some clarifications: was the ps3 working properly before with the modem? what is the model of the router that you are using and are you online using the router? and what is the ip address that you have set on the ps3?

    ciao!

before opening the ports on your modem, you can try first this step: go to your ps3 settings and turn off "media servers" (Network Settings > Media Servers > Disabled)

i'll not be able to provide you a step by step solution on how to open ports on your modem and i'm not one hundred percent sure if the modem has that option since i was not able to find a user guide for your motorola sb2400 since it's not listed under the motorola products. usually all you need to do in order to access the modem's page is open a web browser, using a computer that is directly connected to the modem, and the type the ip address of the modem. once you're on the modem's page, look for "port forwarding" or "port triggering" and it'll ask you for the ports to open. if it'll ask you for an ip address, type the ip address that you have set on your ps3. here's the list of the ports that you need to open:

    Playstation Network Required Ports
    TCP 80
    TCP 443
    TCP 5223
    UDP 3478
    UDP 3479
    UDP 3658

Remote Play & Gaming Required Ports
    TCP 80
    TCP 443
    TCP 5223
    TCP 9293
    TCP 10070-10080
    UDP 3478
    UDP 3479
    UDP 3658
    UDP 10070

just in case opening the ports will not solve your problem, try to look for "dmz" and enable it. that'll open all the ports on your modem. you can also try to disable "upnp" feature if it'll allow you. if above steps are not able to fix your problem, you can try to update the firmware of your modem or contact your ISP just in case there are other firewall on the modem that'll affect the connectivity to your ps3.

    hope this'll help you

This means that your PS3 is not able to get an IP address from your wireless network/router. I would suggest set the IP address manually on your PS3 including the DNS IP address.

Cant access internet but can connect to wireless TP-link router

Your friend is able to go online using the same wireless network. that means the wireless network is working properly and there might be a problem with your computer .
You said that you can connect to the wireless network but you can not go online.
Check the IP address and the default gateway of the computer.
Try to ping the router and DNS server and check what happens.
Make sure that there is no static IP address on the computer.

Connect ps3 to laptop via web and walk

Connecting PS3 to a network I have LinkSys wireless router which is working perfectly for other devices (like laptop, Xbox360, TiVO). My wireless network is configured to NOT broadcast the SID and with a WEP key. After entering this manually in the network setup on my PS3, I was able to obtain an ip address from my router, I was able to open the configureation page on my router, but connecting to the internet would fail with some kind of DNS error. The way this was resolved for me, was to enter the DNS server addresses manually in the PS3 network settings AND use tetertiary DNS server from my ISP as either the primary or the secondary DNS server. ..btw, this also fixed the similar problem I had with my PSP.. Thanks!

.trouble with playstation 3 getting on line through router...

It looks like there are a lot of DNS servers that do not work correctly with the PS3. Below I will list a few DNS servers that do seem to work and you will need to manually configure the DNS settings for your PS3 to any of these addresses.

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

129.250.35.250
129.250.35.251
4.2.2.1
4.2.2.5

Internet connection failed but IP address obtained.

Hello,

Check to make sure that your router has gotten an IP Address from your ISP. Because you PS3 is telling you that it has an IP from your router. This means that the Router to PS3 connection has layer 3 connectivity, but what about from your router to your ISP? check that in the router by logging into the router's web page and going to the status page it should have your information from your ISP if it does not make sure that the main page is set to the proper settings either get IP automatically (Cable Modem) or Get PPPOE (DSL) connection (Make sure that your password information is correct to).

Now after checking these items make sure that you set the router up as the DNS for your network buy setting this on the status page then in your PS3 (set the DNS setting to point to your router, and set your router up as a caching DNS server).
Then power cycle the router after saving everything, and power cycle your PS3 after setting everything. This should clear up your problem.

Thank you,

DNS ERROR

make sure you have a stable internet connection, DNS error means that the internet system cannot translate a name into an IP address and that normally means that the data feed going from your internet connection to the Playstation is going in and out and it cannot complete the upload of information required to access the internet, the problem most likely lies in your router or modem or any other wireless signal producer and it is very unlikely that it is related to the bluetooth connection in the PS3 itself

Dns error when connecting how do I fix this

Unstable connection. if you have wireless connection that could be a problem depending on your environment. Try turning off your firewall too by calling your internet server(Comcast,DSL,etc.)

Cant get internet connection on my ps

first check wether you received a valid ip address for your local network. usually, this should be something like 192.168.x.y. if so, then you might indeed face a dns issue. dns is used to resolve web site names to ip address. usually, your ip service provider will broadcast the external dns servers for your router to recognize.

try to connect with a computer first. if it works, check the ip settings. if your computer also cannot connect without explicit dns server settings you can do one of the following:
- explicit dns server address in ps3. go to "advanced internet connection settings", and then to "dns settings" and set the dns server address
- purchase a 30$ network router and hook it between your internet and the ps3. in the router settings, set the dns server address to be broadcasted to the clients. you can use 168.126.63.1 and 2 which are dns servers in korea (i live in korea), but you might want to find the server near to your location or promoted by your isp

Internet fails from dns

To access the internet from a home broadband network you need the router appropriately configured on the WAN or internet service provider (ISP) side and the attached computer to have an appropriate IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS addresses assigned to the network adapter.

Based solely on the title you should understand the following the belief here is that the PS3 is missing DNS address(es).

DNS address(es) are IP address(es) for servers that convert names like www.fixya.com into IP addresses to send messages to normally.

Your ISP generally assigns DNS addresses for your use.

How do DNS addresses get into the computer's network adapter configuration where they are needed? There are two ways generally in home networks someone manually puts them into the computer or someone enters them into the router and via a service called DHCP they get placed in computer's network adapters configured to accept information from the DHCP service on the router.

If the heading of this problem is correct the PS3 appears to be complaining because the DNS address(es) have not been configured into the computer or the router by the user as expected by the PS3's network adapter. I have no PS3 experience however I believe this information may help to resolve your issue.

I hope this helps
