Question about Zenith DVC2550 Multi-disc DVD Player

1 Answer

Disc error always.

It started infrequently with Disc not supported and now unable to get any disc to be recognized.
Is it fixable with a repair manual and Tech experience or does it need equipment only available at a repair shop?

Hello rdhuckstep,

The problem you are having may be due to dirty optics. First I would suggest getting a DVD optical head cleaning disk try that first. Then use a manual cleaning method using liquid optical head cleaning solution with the chamois head cleaner strips (This will require the tech manual/schematic to show you how to remove the various pieces of the carriage assembly. If this does not work you may have a faulty pickup laser or pickup photo-transistor. In which case you will need to check the optical power with an optical power meter (if you have one), use the instructions that come with the meter and in the technical manual to do this testing. If you do not feel comfortable doing this steps, please take the unit to a qualified TV repair shop.

I hope this helps

Thank you,

We have a DVP FX 875 and the disc spins but it has just stopped playing/reading the disc - any disc! Is this fixable?

Yes, it is fixable, replace optical laser block of DVP-FX875 to solve its issue.
Let me know if you need part number of optical laser block or contact local tv repair shop for replacement.

Cyberhome 300 says "Loading" for a long time and then says "Bad disk" for discs I usually play.

The most common problem in cases where the device gives you error messages such as "no disc", "bad disc", "disc not recognized" the optical lens needs to be cleaned. You can clean the optical lens in two ways. You can buy a disc cleaning disc or you can clean the lens manually.
If you choose to buy a cleaning disc, you can purchase them in most cases at a wal-mart or just about any electronics store in your local area.

Here is a picture of what the kit may look like:

Every kit looks different, but this will give you an idea of what you will be looking for.

If you choose to clean the optical lens manually, you can check my profile, go to my tips where you can find detailed instructions.

The following picture shows you what the optical lens looks like:

The worst case scenario for a situation like this is that the optical reading circuits/laser have malfunctioned. This is a very expensive part to replace and depending on what you paid for your player, it might be cheaper to buy a new one.

Here is a picture to give you an idea of what optical reading assembly itself looks like taken apart:

You can also find in one of my tips the most common mechanical problems that happen in dvd. If the disc does not spin, it will also cause the player to give you the same errors. Listen to make sure you are hearing the dvd spin up when the machine is trying to read the disc. If you hear it not spinning or starting and stopping a lot the problem could be the spindle motor malfunctioning, which is fixable at a reasonable price depending on what service technicians charge in your area (average $65-90 dollars).

Here is a picture of the spindle (the motor is located directly below it and not show in the picture):

Try cleaning your optical lens first a couple of times to see if that resolves the issue.

I hope this has provided you with a general idea of what the problem is and how you can solve it. If you need further assistance, please feel free to ask.

If you would not mind, please rate my help. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You.

My daughters GoVideo DVD player always says CHECK DISC!

If no disk is detected it means that the lens are dirty or defective.
If the lens cleaner disk, or using Qtips and alcohol did not work, then the lens pickup or the disk drive must be replaced. this involves precision soldering and must be done by a technician. Regards.

No valid disc error

these built in tv/dvd players have this problem the laser inside tends to burn out. being unable to read discs. it may be dirty and you can try to clean it with a laser disc cleaner or by blowing the dust out with compressed air . but more than likley the laser is damged and you will have to go into a repair shop.

My Daewoo dvg-5000n will not recognize dvds

Basically you have two options, as there are many things that can malfunction or become damaged. Rendering it usually un fixable...

Cheap solution
Buy a laser cleaning disc, extremely cheap sold almost anywhere that says electronics. Use the disc in the DVD player.

Buy a new one unfortunately, as the repair cost would run you as much as a new DVD player.

Sorry for your misfortune, and don't feel bad I bought a very nice one and it crapped out on me in less than 6 months. Bought a very cheap one and its lasted me the last 2 years and still going strong.

Magnavox DVD recorder...finalizing problem

The manual isn't too helpful either - "Recording error other than below," it says. There are a couple of possibilities. The Philips/Magnavox/Funai recorders automatically record in VR mode when you use +R discs (there are two possible recording modes - V Mode and VR Mode). Is it possible that you have switched disc types lately? If you are currently using -R discs, switch to +R and vice versa. The manual states that +/-RW discs take a while to initialize.

I couldn't find a full factory reset on that one, so you may have to unplug the unit for about 20 minutes to restore all the defaults.

Another possibility: Finalization requires some extra space on the disc. If you accidentally pressed the button that changes the recording format between SP, EP, LP, etc., you may not be able to fit the same amount of video on the disc that you were able to fit before. You can change the format by pressing the Disc Mode button on the remote - LP Mode will fit 3 hours worth of recordings onto a 2-hr disc and is considered a "medium quality" recording. Try changing the Disc Mode to LP and see if it will finalize the next disc that you record. The downside of this possibility is that the discs that you have already made that are giving you errors are not "fixable" - you will will have to re-record the shows to a new disc in LP mode.

Good luck!

DMR-EH75V DVD Recorder

Yes, it would not recognize any type of disc. The disc icon was always present on the display even though no disc was inserted. Also, mine went out while recording from HDD to DVD. Panasonic had mine repaired in two business days and it' s working great.
