I have a 1950's wedgewood stove that I just purchased. I can not get the pilot light to light in the oven and the ember-glow broiler's pilot is lit and the ring lit once but will not ignite again.

I thought my 1972 GE was old! You need to have it serviced by an elderly gas appliance technician. The pilot jets and thermocouples and hoods can be cleaned by you, but nothing else. It also needs testing for the gas pressure in your house, using an old liquid manometer and adjusting accordingly..

When I turn it on, the heating element glows, but there doesn't seem to be any gas flowing through. I checked the valve, and it's open. Does this oven have a pilot light that needs to be lit?

The glow you see is actually the ignitor, it has taken the place of the out-dated pilot light. It is likely that your ignitor is partially burnt out and the safety valve is not opening. A good bake ignitor draws just over 3 amps and the safety valve will not open until it reads this 3 amp draw.

If the glow you see is a dull orange, it is likely that the ignitor is bad.

Oven will not light

Go to partselect.com and look for a ignitor.
When on this site... you will be asked to put in you model # which you will find in the drawer below oven.
This is a very simple project which should be about half hour to replace.
No electrical to turn off, no gas to turn off. Just a screwdriver, and the job is finished

20" gas stove: has pilot light in oven, oven lights but then after several minutes will turn off. do not smell gas after it turns itself off. Using 3/8" gas line. Please advise as to potential problems...

Hi,
The oven igniter should stay on constantly as long as oven control is calling for heat and not fade off. If the igniter is too weak and not pulling enough current it may not open the gas valve correctly and gas will be let out of the gas valve and not igniter.
The likely failure is a weak oven glow bar igniter. I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your range.

Hope this helps .

PILOT LIGHT TOO LARGE ON A GARLAND OVEN RANGE. CAN I ADJUST IT OR BLOW IT OUT COMPLETELY?

If there is a small screw on the pilot lie it is adjustable. DO NOT just blow it out, you will have raw gas leaking into your home. Eric

No heat

It can be both the heat fuse that gone or your pilot light has gone out, check to see if you see a flame while it is functioning, to do this turn on your dryer and watch in the dark so that you can actually see the flame coming on and off or check behind the little door that houses the pilot light to see if you see a flame if no flame relight, this should start your dryer producing heat again
