PANASONIC NV-DS28 DIGITAL VIDEO CAMERA I am trying to locate a four pin female socket to replace a damaged unit on the circuit board of the above camera. The socket is the connection between the USB cable and the camera. Local repairers have not been able to assist me with this problem. Can you assist or make a suggestion??

The problem only related to trying to locate and purchase a four pin firewire socket to replace the one damaged on my son's camera. I am currently waiting for a response from an Australian parts supplier who I understand can assist. Such a small part and such a bit job trying to replace it.

Thanks for your response..

You will require a firewire cable.
Usually a 4 pin to 6 pin cable. 4 pin to camera 6 pin to computer, assuming you PC has a fireiwre socket.
PC computer have Movie Maker as part of the OS.

USB will only transfer the still picture.
For video you require a firewire cable.
Please note the sockets on the computer as they can be 6 or 9 pin depending on make/model.
The camera will be 4 pin.

ATI Radeon X1659 Pro - Which pins carry the composite video signal on the 7-pin S-Video output?

Hello,

Looking at the female socket, there is a flat 'key' (slot) at the bottom of the socket, there are four pins directly above that.

The composite pins are the two middle pins of the four. Looking at the female socket, the left of those two pins (pin 7) is the composite video ground. And the right of those two pins (pin 6) is the composite video signal.

NEED HELP

G'day,

I also have the same problem and after almost buying a replacement I thought I would try one time to get it to go.

What I did was start the cam without a tape in it, let it bring up the little red icon indicating no tape inserted, (it hadn't started flashing "PLEASE RE-OPERATE AFTER PUSHING RESET BUTTON" at this stage) then I inserted my tape. Hey presto, it works although for how long I don't know. I'll immediately start burn my tapes to disc while the going is good.

Hope this helps someone

Problem with Panasonic Camcorder NV-DS28

From speaking to a repair centre this is a very common problem with Panasonic camcorders.
I got the impression it was a panasonic problem with a connector that needed either cleaning or replacing.
There are 2 fixes, one is cheap quick and temporary.
The other involves sending the camcorder away to be professionally repaired, it should cost the minimum fee, which was £50 in 2007.

As for the cheap version, it involved turning the camcorder off and hitting it against a copy of the yellow pages and turning on again.  This worked for long enough to record my 2nd daughters birth.

Putting video footage on my computer

To get your footage into the computer from DV tape you need a four pin firewire (IEEE1493 or iLink) cable from the camera to a six pin cable into the computer. USB will not do a proper job, it's for downloding photos or as you already mentioned, Web caming.
