Question about DVD & Blu-Ray Players

1 Answer

Bought a boxed set of Star Trek Next Generation. In the first two seasons 3 episodes stalled to the extent that they jumped back to the menu.3 episodes were in German.Seasons 3456 were OK.Season 7,of the 25 episodes 7 were in English,18 were in German.I took this back to the shop and exchanged it.This turned out to have 2 in English, and 23 in German. What can cause this?

One of my grandsons fixed it.He turned up today out of the blue and noticed that I had been hitting the up button at the same time as the play button.Thats what happens when you are clumsy. This caused the choice to change to German. Thanks for the enquiry. Donca

I have Netflix. Picture freezes, not on the menu page, but the page that shows the program you selected with a list of all the episodes. The last "stop" before you play to watch.

I'd have to know what type of set top box you have to help you. Netflix has a number of common characteristics, but many nuances are specific to the type of set-top box (or XBox or PS-3/4).

For the time being, if this is too much of an irritant for you, I would just close out Netflix when you are finished watching your movie and restart it again when you want to resume. When you return to Netflix, most set top boxes take you right where you left off in the series.

Ihave made a DVD of a TV series and the menu for the episodes appears onscreen but I only seem to have the option of playing episode one....how would I jump to a different episode?

Back in 2012, I had what I think was the same issue, an entire series, with only the 1st "starting" title. Easiest solution is to just write down the episode starting time of each one, and just enter that time to advance to that episode, or if you don't have that option, just fast forward it to the time on your sheet of paper or whatever.

My brother found me a "TRIAL" program called "ULTRA VIDEO SPLITTER" really cool which easily does what you want to do, that is divide your 4 or 6 hour, or whatever it is, enter menu titles, the works. The one I had was "ULTRA VIDEO SPLITTER 6.3.0206" from "AONE" Software. I do not know if it is still available. If not maybe one of it's cousins is!. Good Luck! (Man I said "whatever" too much! Oh well, whatever)

Sounds to me like a laser alignment issue, quickly get a support case going with the Manufacturer as most have a one year warranty whether or not you have a receipt.

Is there a reason shows I watch on XFINITY are missing episodes?

Due to licensing and other issues with services like this (Netflix, Hulu, Cable On Demand etc.) Not all episodes will be available at all times.

I lost the remote. How can I navigate without it? When I put in a DVD I can play the first episode, but when that one is over I can't navigate back to the main menu to play the next episode. Do I have to...

In short, you will have to consider purchasing a replacement remote control. If the original is not available, a universal remote may do the job. Universals are obtainable practically anywhere and can be preset to recognise the device of virtually any brand; in your case, the DVD player. Most functions will work with such remotes, but not all can be guaranteed. I hope this helps a bit - and the (universal) remote won't cost an arm and a leg to buy either.

Hello Mark. Most likely your player is regionalized and not compatable ith those DVD's that won't play. To eliminate the regional setting on your player go to this link http://www.wisebread.com/make-your-dvd-player-region-free-in-seconds

It contains the step by step instructions on how to make your player region free. It also has an how to video and a full explanation of why the regionalization was installed in the first place. Joe

Thanks for choosing Fixya!

It's highly unlikely that 2 sets of "factory" DVD's are defective. If they were recorded copies, then I'd say it's caused by using cheap discs. Try the disc(s) in another DVD player, maybe a friends. Also try cleaning your DVD player's laser lens. Sometimes a cleaning disc will do the job.

BTW, I'm a Star Trek Fan and have the entire collection.

Hope that helps...
