My xbox won't turn on

It wont turn on, but the power brick is lit up orange. Tried unplugging, tried different outlets, nothing. it was working fine, then i tried to plug in the guitar hero guitar into the usb port, and broke the small plastic piece inside the usb port. After that it wouldnt fire up. Could that be a reason, or just couinsidence?

my xbox was about 5 months old when the problem started. My console won't turn on it just is green in the center and is blinking orange on the circle that is the button. I have no idea what triggered it, I never dropped it or got it wet or to hot. I can't figure it out.

Hey guys i was freakin out because i had that same problem.  i didnt want to pay an extra 1000$ just because the stupid repair guys wouldnt tell me the answer.  So look inside your broken usb port, there should be like golden prongs in there.  if they are bent, straighten them and you can turn your xbox back on.  Now this might not be the case with you, but that is how i just solved my problem.  if you have any questions ill try to keep posted and see if i can help further. also you can get me at my gamertag for xbox live.  its volcomxskater37

Anyone else who has this problem, I had exactly the same thing happen to me (trying to plug in a Play & Charge kit, but identical result) and was able to fix it exactly how sccrskillage said.

If you look at the bottom USB port on the front of your box there are four gold prongs that are probably all smushed together. Using a pocket knife or very small screwdriver (laptop size), you first have to separate each prong from the others and straighten them all out so they're parallel. Then, pull them away all away from the sides of the port so they stand alone. The only thing each prong should touch is the bottom of the port itself, where it's connected. (Make SURE you unplug the Xbox first, because it WILL short while you do this if you're using a metal tool.)

Here's a link to a closeup pic to help clarify what I mean, plus a zoomed out shot for context:

Zoomed out: http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/6572/img5061i.jpg

Honestly, I don't know what this port is. With prongs like that it doesn't look like a USB port, not even a broken one, and anyway what's the probability that we'd all break our USB ports in exactly the same way trying to plug in a USB device? Why haven't we broken all the other USB ports we've tried to use in our lives? :P Just sayin'.

Anyway, this is such an easy fix but the first time I tried to straighten the prongs I didn't get it quite right and of course the box still wouldn't turn on, and I almost gave up and figured I'd zapped the mobo or something. So, figured I'd take a minute to make sure there's some detailed info out there for anyone else with this problem, and hopefully they can salvage their perfectly good Xbox instead of scrapping it or buying a bunch of unecessary parts. :)

Power brick red light when plugged into the xbox 360 but when its not its orange

If the power brick is plugged into a surge protector then try to plug it directly into the wall outlet instead (note: xbox power brick has it's own surge protector)

Make sure that the brick is clean and the ventilation holes are not blocked.

Unplug ALL cables from Xbox 360 and plug back in securely. (note that though some cables might appear to be secure but they might not be seeded correctly. Verify.)

Check power source and make sure there is no fluctuating current preventing stable current to the Xbox 360 when attached? Try to plug the xbox into a set in another room and see if it corrects itself. If so then you know that possability of outlet issue is likely.

Lastly... your power brick might be bad.

The power brick on my xbox 360 is red and is not overheating yet i smaell burning plastic from my xbox 360 console anyone have any tips?

A red light on the xbox 360 power brick usually indicates the Xbox 360 console has a short circuit. Here is how to be sure:

1. Try unplugging the power brick from the wall and from the xbox 360.
2. Wait about 30 seconds and plug the power brick into the wall power outlet.
3. Make sure the indicator light on the power brick is orange. ( If it's not orange then get yourself a new power brick and try again ).
4. Plug the power brick into the Xbox 360 console and try to power it on.
If your power brick turns red or you get an immediate three red ring error than you will need to have the console professionally repaired.

Three red lights flashing

Well mainly it is down to overheating, and as you play your games the motherboard flexes ever so slightly and the soldering snaps off and that is when you are left with the red lights of doom.

Step 1: Turn on the console, and check the light on your power supply
The power supply light is located on the black box that is in the middle of your power cord.

Step 2: If power supply light is green, try this solution

Step 3: If the power supply light is red, is orange when the console is powered on, or is not lit, try these solutions:

Solution A: Unplug your console, plug it into a different outlet in a different room, and then turn it on
This will help determine whether the problem is with your power supply, your power outlet, or your console.

Solution B: Request a replacement power supply
If the power supply light is still red, orange, or not lit, the problem is with your power supply. Contact Xbox Support to obtain a replacement power supply.

Good luck!

My Xbox 360 won't turn on. When I plug the power cable into the wall, the orange light on the power brick lights up as normal, but if you plug the other end into the Xbox, the orange light starts blinking....

Sounds like a bad power supply, or on two occasions I have found that one of the USB ports had a bent pin which was shorted to the metal housing, which wouldn't let the unit power on. So check all of the USB ports

Xbox 360 won't turn on

I had this problem. Make sure the pins in the USB ports (2 on the front and 1 on the back of the console) aren't bent and there's nothing obstructing them. I unbent some of the metal inside these ports, and voila! I have a working xbox.

Power brick colour

Alright, lets fix this!
Xbox 360 power supply light is orange or yellow.
Usually when the Xbox 360 power supply light is orange it's on standby so there is no problem with your Xbox 360 console but the power supply can't supply it with power !

First you have to try unplugging the Xbox 360 power supply from the console & unplugging the power cord from the wall outlet also unplug the Xbox 360 power supply from the power cord, wait for a minute then reconnect it all back , also try it on another wall outlet without any extension cords at all.
If it's still doing the same it will be definitely a fault with the Xbox 360 power supply.
So, in this case please contact Xbox 360 customer support to fulfill the Xbox 360 power supply.

Xbox 360 power supply light is red.
There is something wrong with the Xbox 360 power supply connection so try unplugging the Xbox 360 power supply from the console & unplugging the power cord from the wall outlet also unplug the Xbox 360 power supply from the power cord, wait for minute then reconnect it all back , also try it on another wall outlet without any extension cord at all.

If it's still red that would be for sure a fault with the Xbox 360 power supply .
So, then contact Xbox 360 customer support to fulfill your Xbox 360 power supply .

You can also find replacement power cords many places online. See if you can get your hands on another cord and try that to see if its the current power cord.
Hope this helps you out! Please don't forget to rate :)

Orange or Yellow Indicator Light

When the Xbox 360 power supply light is orange or yellow this means there is no problem with your console but the power supply can't supply it with power.

To remedy this problem, first try unplugging the Xbox 360 power supply from the console and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. You'll also want to uplug the Xbox 360 power supply from the power cord.

Wait for about five minutes and then reconnect everything. You might also want to try plugging it into another wall outlet without an extension cord.

If you are still getting an orange or yellow indicator light, then something is at fault with the Xbox 360 power supply. If this is the case, contact the Xbox 360 customer support to get a new one.

Hope this helps you out! Don't forget to rate me :)
