GE Refrigerator Brand new. Won't stop running. It's making ice just fine. Why does it just keep running?

I have had it for about a week. It sits on ceramic tile and nothing is obstructed. It was working just fine for a few days, then yesterday it started making a really loud buzzing sound which the GE website says is the icemaker, but that it should not buzz continuously. It was buzzing loudly non-stop. I emptied the ice, and ran some through the door. When I did this the buzzing stopped. It still seems to me to be running a lot, but it has been kicking off and on today. My food is cold in both fridge and freezer. I don't know, my neighbors doesn't buzz like that when it makes ice (same model). Also, when I check the temp for the freezer it says 37, but should be 0? it is set on 5, which is what it was set on when I got it. But my food is frozen. Should I just call for service or is this normal operation? Thanks.

Thanks. I was incorrect about the temp. It is new and I am still trying to figure it out. The temp in the fridge is 37. The setting for the freezer is 5, and the actual reading is 5. The food in both the fridge and freezer are fine. It makes ice, and the water is cold. Everything is working. But....

Here is what it does. When it kicks on, it makes a noticeable, loud, buzzing noise. It makes this noise the whole time it runs. It did NOT make this noise for the first few days I had it. If I remove the ice maker and manually turn the 2 prong part that rotates, the buzzing stops. I put the ice maker back in and the rest of the time it runs it is nice and quiet. The next time it starts running, the buzzing starts again. I guess I will just have to call for service as I do not think it should run this loud, especially since it didn't do it from the start. Thanks for your assistance.

my GE has been doing this since we first got it...we've replaced the motor behind the ice maker 3 times...and they came out and reset everything...but it is still so loud that I am about to shove it out in the street and just let someone have it....GE repairmen just keep fixing the same thing...fixes it temporariy...about 2 days..then starts again...It's really loud..we can hear it upstairs...VERY ANNOYING

Unless the airflow is obstructed (like the refrigerator is on carpet), then it should not run more than a couple hours at a time. if you just got it today and loaded it up with stuff then it might take 24 hours for the temperatures to stabilize.

the temperature in the freezer cannot be 37 (this would be normal for the refrigerator though) if it is making ice, the thermometer must be bad. i would give it a little more time since the temperatures are acceptable. sometimes when you have a new appliance in your home it is easy to be oversensitive to its noises.

Makes too much ice and it overflows

You cannot - this is a design issue that really cannot be fixed since the arm that senses the ice level cannot get caught up in the bucket or it would break every time you opened the freezer. Any fridge brand of this type has the same issue.

GE side by side refrigerator: water/ice dispensor

I bought a brand new smartwater replacement filter and after a very short time, my water stopped coming through the door.. took out the new replacement filter and inserted a brand new one .. problem solved.. apparently some of the g.e. smartwater filter replacement cartridges don't have the high enough two plastic inserts which are attached to them at the top of the filter when you screw them on... if you have taken your cartridge in and out a few times, i think it wears down the plastic so it doesn't fit properly and won't put up whatever it is supposed to push up to make the water come through.. I personally think this is a g.e. problem with the replacement filters...
