Try unplugging the power cable of the modem for about 15 minutes to let the memory clear the MAC address of the computer.
After 15 minutes, plug in the modem while connected to the router.
This should allow the modem to use the MAC address of the router and provide an IP address to it.

Hooking up

take the cable from the modem (with the little larger that a regular phone clear plastic connector on it) plug this into the back of the router to the port labeled WAN or Internet or it sits off by itself (while any other ports on the back of the router are grouped together) or could be a different color. Next take another RJ-45 network cable (just like the one that you just plugged in, with the little larger clear plastic phone connector at each end) into the network port on the back of your computer (it only fits one way and only in that port, may or may not be labeled, usually is above the USB ports on desktop computers). Plug in the power to the modem (if necessary), then the power to the router then finally turn on the computer. give it a few minutes and you should get a valid IP addy and then be connected to the internet, if not and you have to re-configure the router, post back here & we can answer that for you (or log in remotely and do it for you). Hope this helps ;-)

How do i hook it up to the internet. i have been giving a gateway model fmn400c and icant figure out what hooks it up to the internet... i currently have a laptop hooked up to the internet via cable...

Is there a NIC in the Gateway? A place to plug in a cat 5 cable? If yes, there is your answer. You will need a place to plug in the other end ... if you dont have a router, you will need one. I recommend LinkSys routers though there are other brands.

If you have no NIC, get a PCI based NIC at the Big Box Store. They can tell you how to put it in or for a small fee, they will do it for you.

Can't get router to connect to Dell Dimension 2400 desktop

Try turning OFF DHCP from services. This may fix your problem. Look for "DHCP Client", double click on it (or right click and choose properties), STOP the service, then set it's startup type to 'manual'. That'll kill it. See DHCP is what "Gives out/assigns addresses" and on the ONLY PC, it is the First one... 192.168.0.1... Both PC's will be assigning themselves as that, and that will cause a conflict. As the Router now does the DHCP work. Of course ensure you DO have DHCP set on router.

Cannot access internet with a linksys router

Make sure DHCP is turned off on the modem or else you will get ip conflicts. Also make sure it is plugged into the wan port on the router

I can't get internet connection when the router is in place but it works without it, i no longer have my instalation guide or software(cd)

The only "installation" you need for the router is to connect it to the modem, plug in the power and, if it's a wired router, to connect it to the computer.

Then configure your computer's internet connection to connect to the router. (How you do that depends on which operating system the computer is running.)

If you're getting a wireless connection with no router, you're connecting to someone else's router - which is both illegal and dangerous (it gives them access to your computer).

Blitzz Router

Ah, you can no longer use the modem or the Blitzz screen to connect to your Internet connection. You'll need to patch another Ethernet cord from the router to your Ethernet port on your computer and it should automatically connect. If you still get prompted to dial, open up Internet Explorer and ignore any prompts to dial and then click Tools, then Internet Options, then click the Connections tab at the top, then click the selection to Never Dial a Connection. Confirm your choice by clicking OK and then try browsing the Internet like usual.
