How do I install maps on my GPS?

First you need to have Mapinstall app on your computer

Once MapInstall is installed, to load maps:
  1. Connect the Garmin device to the computer
  2. Open the MapInstall program
    • MapInstall appears in the Start menu or Start screen on Windows
    • MapInstall appears in the Applications folder on a Mac
  3. Select the device or SD card
    • If all compatible map products installed on the computer will fit completely on the selected device, MapInstall will give options to Send Maps (Mac)/Continue (Windows) or Customize
      • Send Maps/Continue will send all the maps that will fit on the device
      • Customize will allow the selection of individual map products
      • Advanced/Partial Install will allow sections of the map products to be sent without sending the whole map product
    • If all map products installed on the computer will not fit completely on the selected device, MapInstall will give the option to Continue
      • This will allow the selection of individual map products
      • Advanced/Partial Install will allow the selection of individual sections of the map products
    • If loading the map to a SD card or an older Garmin device, MapInstall will give the option to Continue
      • MapInstall will allow the selection of individual sections of the map products - similar to the Advanced/Partial Install option
  4. Click Send Maps (Mac) / Continue (Windows)
  5. Click Confirm (Mac) / Install (Windows)
  6. Click Done (Mac) / Finish (Windows)1

Will not recognize unit via the usb cable

MP3 players use the popular USB connection which sometimes produces errors while connecting. These messages are similar to the "Device Not Recognized" error received with various USB devices. Fixing an MP3 player is sometimes specific to the brand, but they are so similar that most can be fixed the same troubleshooting steps.

Instructions

Device Manager

Click "Start" and go to "Control Panel." Double-click "System" and locate the Hardware tab to find the Device Manager. Vista and Windows 7 users can just type "Device Manager' from the start menu.

Locate "Disk Drives" from the list and double-click "Portable Device." If there is an exclamation mark or other error on the device, go to the "Drivers" tab.

Click "Uninstall" and remove the player. Restart the computer and attach the player reinstall the drivers.

Anti-virus conflicts

Plug the player into a different computer to see if it gets recognized. If it does not, contact the manufacturer to find out if it is broken.

Turn off your anti-virus program on your PC if the device works on other computers. Reinstall the drivers using the device manager as described in section 1.

Plug in the player to confirm the connection.

Other solutions

Check the battery level and make sure the batter is not low or depleted. A low battery will sometimes prevent the player from connecting. Let it charge from the power cord, if necessary.

Verify that you have at least Service Pack 1 installed. Go to the Start menu and type "Run." Press Enter.

Type "Winver" in the box and press "Enter." The Windows version will be displayed along with any installed service packs. Download a service pack from Microsoft, if applicable.

Remove the player from the USB port and push a pin into the reset hole located on the bottom. Reconnect to see if the problem is resolved.

Check the connection to make sure it's secure. The cable should fit firmly into both the player and the computer. Connect to a different USB port if you have one available.

Download updated firmware or use the MP3 Recovery Tool provided under Resources (mp3 players).

Tips & Warnings

A bad cable will sometimes prevent a good connection. Use a different one to isolate the cause.

Problem upgrading maps

If you are using a Windows 98 or 2000 PC there is limited support for USB devices and you often need to install a driver before the USB device can be connected.

If you are using XP and you can't see the Tom Tom device as another drive then you may have a faulty lead. The lead you need is a USB 'A' to 'Mini B' which can be found at Maplin:

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=97267

Depending upon the country you are in you could get a similar product from a local electronics store but it will be called the same.

Also check that you computer can see other types of memory sticks. If it can't it may be a software problem or a computer USB port problem. Try another USB port if you have one.

Trying to install HOME automatically and wait flashing on screen

If you insert the CD that came with your device, it'll automatically connect you to TomTom Home. Once you connect your device via USB your computer will recognize it after the the software has been installed and automatically connect you. You don't necessarily need to restart your computer after installation, but I recommend it

PLZ!!! i rele need help!!! ='(

There are two ways to format an Mp3 player - one on the computer itself, and one in Windows Media Player. Both methods will end up erasing all the songs on the player, but the player will be "good as new" after that. Sometimes reformatting in this manner will override the player's native formatting and cause problems - this can be reversed in most cases by updating the player's firmware. Firmware upgrades are available from most manufacturers' websites.

WARNING: The following procedures will erase all songs on the player.

Check if the file system is NTFS. If yes, format it to FAT or FAT32. - Connect player to computer, double-click my computer, right click on icon of mp3 player and select format. This only applies to Windows-based computers.
You can also format the player in Windows Media Player itself:
Connect your Mp3 player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "name of Mp3 player here 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.

SD Card not showing in my Tomtom go 720 to play MP3

If you want to play mp3 songs from sd card then create mp3 folder and place all the songs in side that folder. Now when you go to Juke box menu it will scan all the songs and you will be able to play them the way you want..
