5501 LC3 SST LCD 2 Way Car Remote Starter System Logo
Posted on Dec 24, 2010

I had the Viper 5501 installed on my 2000 4Runner last week and today my new truck battery has died. I got it boosted and now it is dead again. The only thing I can think of is the car starter is draining my battery. Why is this happening, was it installed wrong?

Yes your alrm could have been installed wrong. Depending on where the tech hooked up his wiring he maybe at a spot where the alarm is not allowing the trucks computers to shut down. The trucks computers should shut down after 20 minutes to where it draws only 20 to 30 milliamps. If the tech hooked up his wiring in the wrong locations the computer may never shut down and will stay at 150 to 200 milliamp draw which in this case would drain the battery

My car starts only when boosted

Measure the voltage across the car battery with a volt meter with the alternator running .. It needs to read 13.4 volts or higher to charge the battery.

The remotes for my Viiper 5501 won't charge

There was an issue with these remotes when first manufactured. Try this, when initially charging the remote; plug the charger into the outlet then, plug it into the remote; remove, plug it in, remove; continue. It should take approximately six times before the remote says "charge" in the screen. If you repeat the process and the remote does not "wake up", replace it.

How to disconnect viper car alarm

Find your alarm module, it is a black, rectangular box with an antenna wire on one end. Remove any ties or fasteners holding the alarm in place and take it out from under the dash.
All you need to do is simply remove the two connected wires to the ignition switch, and connect it with the car side of the two together. This enables the ignition switch and that enhances the control over the starter again, without hindrance.

I believe i have a weak battery on my car when i tried starting the car after it had sat a month it was dead. I boosted it and it started and run fine. I bought a trickle charger and put it on the battery....

The charger shouldn't have hurt the battery but corrosion is caused by fumes from the battery being charged or used. If you know the cable ends are clear, the battery probably has a dead cell and will need replaced. Most parts stores will do a load test on the battery for free.

Had a dead battery Thursday a.m. got a boost. Took it to have the battery tested. Guy told me it was 5 years old, testing not bad but recommended a new battery with winter coming. Today. dead battery...

There is a switch above the break peddle that is adjustable for the break lights. This is running your battery down that is why the gauges are jumping. Change the battery.. If it is 5 years old draining it dead will kill the cells. Hope this helps.

I have a viper starter in my truck. I was installed in 2007. It has started the truck twice today that I am aware of without me or anyone else touching the remotes. I doubt I am having a voltage problem...

Your alarm might be in a timed-start mode or temperature start mode. It should be able to be reprogrammed or reset to function normally again but you'll have to consult the installation manual, which might call for a visit to your local alarm install shop.

The battery on my viper 5501 ran down. I plugged it in to recharge and now it won't work. The back-up key fob does work. how can i reset it? thanks very much.

Are you talking about the Remote LCD key fob itself? If you are then you need to replace the battery. Search on ebay. Hopefully this helps.

'98 Audi A4, Viper 5501. Car auto-starts and runs

You will be best to connect the real tach wire. You will need to programme the alarm to recognise the speed of the engine, this way it will know where the idle position is.
