Question about Canon Digital Cameras

I own the canon PowerShot A70 purchased in 2004. The LCD screen went black and will not let me take pictures. I can still view pictures from my Cf card and it let me download them to my computer.

The camera would have to be serviced by Canon or their authorized service rep. It may be the viewfinder unit, or the circuit board that has the viewfinder drive circuits on it that has to be changed. The service tech has the setup to diagnose the fault and change the necessary parts.

It is known problem of ccd imager failure in Canon A70 camera and ccd imager will be replaced to get live view in camera mode to take fresh pictures.

A85 camera LCD shows up with pink and black lines every time a picture is taken. LCD screen displays the camera icons on LCD screen but will not take anymore photo's. Lens used to view picture status...


This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check this link for more info.

The display screen is blocked. The lens is open. Can see outline of blockage


If Canon A70 camera shows previously taken/ stored pictures properly in playback mode and does not show live view in LCD in camera mode to take fresh pictures then it is ccd imager chip failure problem and ccd imager chip will be replaced.

When turn on camera on screen is black


I think your Canon A70 camera does not show live view in camera mode to take pictures but show you previously stored picture properly in playback mode.
If that is true then Canon A70 camera got problem of bad ccd imager that will be replaced to get live vew in camera mode.

Send it to Canon they have a recall on this model, N/C Go to the canon web site and look up Service Advisory, CCD malfunction.

I had a A70 that would still take pictures, but the screen did not show a picture. I did some research and found that this is somewhat a common problems with some of the Canon Powershots to include the A70 where the LCD screens expire. I believe that if the camera gets too hot, such as being left in a vehicle the LCD seperates. I sent my camera to Canon and they fixed it for free. It took about 4-6 weeks to receive my camera back, and now it works perfectly. They did a great job on communicating with me, and fixing the issue. I think that alone is worth buying a Canon. Unable to take picture


Canon has posted a free repair recall of several models (including the A70), due to faulty connections of the LCD screen. The repair will be made regardless of warranty status:
